Astro Bot Update Finally Adds Iconic Square Enix Characters

At the debut of Astro Bot, players were overjoyed to find beloved PlayStation characters transformed into adorable robots – from Ghost of Tsushima to Ape Escape. These franchises received a warm welcome, enhancing the appeal of this delightful platformer. Yet, fans worldwide were puzzled by the absence of Cloud from Final Fantasy 7 in the game, given the significant role the RPG played in cementing PlayStation’s reputation.

It’s great news that the issue has been addressed! The latest content update for the platformer includes Square Enix‘s Cloud Strife, a character well-deserving of his place. Not only Cloud, but also other renowned figures from Square Enix’s illustrious collection of characters have made their appearance.

Astro Bot has announced that Serge from Chrono Cross, 2B from Nier: Automata, and Sephiroth from Final Fantasy 7 will be making special appearances in the game as notable characters, or VIP Bots. These guest characters are known as VIP Bots, so it’s exciting to see more of them joining the roster, along with the new levels that promise a challenging experience.

It’s clear that the new levels themselves are the main highlight, as five more have been incorporated into the charming PS5 platformer. Generous indeed is developer Team Asobi, as demonstrated by these free content updates, and the inclusion of 90 levels in the game is a testament to this generosity. This is an impressive milestone for any platformer, especially one from a company like PlayStation that’s known for its steady pace.

It’s unclear at this point whether this is the final significant update for the Astro Bot game, or if Sony and Team Asobi are planning additional level packs. While Sony has had its share of issues, they have been commendable for providing free updates, as seen with God of War Ragnarok and The Last of Us Part 2, which both benefited greatly from extra modes. We’re hoping for more content for this platformer, but fans wouldn’t complain if a sequel emerged in the current generation or PlayStation 6 instead.
