ASUS Launches Its New Gaming Phone 9 Series

The gaming-focused brand, ASUS Republic of Gamers, unveiled the new versions of their gaming phones – the ROG Phone 9 and ROG Phone 9 Pro.

The latest ROG Series 9 Duo advances from its predecessors, incorporating top-tier features and offering exceptional gaming performance that ranks among the finest in portable devices.

These devices boast vibrant and swift 6.78-inch AMOLED screens, capable of an impressive 185Hz refresh rate for smooth gaming performance. The unique AniMe Vision display, a beloved feature by ROG Phone gamers, allows users to personalize the mini-LED behavior on their screen. The ROG Phone 9 Pro has a whopping 648 programmable mini-LEDs, more than any previous ROG Phone model. For added durability, ASUS incorporates robust Corning Gorilla Glass on the display, making it suitable for use even while wearing gloves. The screen can also reach an astounding 2,500 nits brightness, ensuring clear visibility in direct sunlight.

Equipped with Qualcomm’s top-tier mobile processor, the Snapdragon 8 Elite, these flagships – the ROG Phone 9 and ROG Phone 9 Pro – are so advanced in terms of performance and graphics that ASUS boasts a console-like gaming experience. The Snapdragon 8 Elite comes with an Oryon CPU, Adreno 830 GPU, and an AI-centric Hexagon NPU, the part of the phone dedicated to all AI tasks. ASUS claims that this new chipset brings “notable improvements” over its predecessor in gaming phones, ensuring that even high-demand titles with maximum graphic settings deliver a seamless and lag-free experience.

Regarding their memory and storage capabilities, both models boast 12GB of swift LPDDR5X RAM out-of-the-box. The ROG Phone 9 includes 256GB of storage, whereas the ROG Phone 9 Pro offers a more substantial 512GB (with a 1TB variant available as well).

Both phones have the same type of camera for their main units. ASUS chose a Sony Lytia 700, which boasts a 50-megapixel sensor and a maximum aperture of F1.9, along with built-in optical image stabilization. These devices can capture images in both JPEG and RAW formats. Additionally, they are equipped with an ultrawide camera offering a 13-megapixel view at 120 degrees, as well as a 5-megapixel macro camera.

The cameras used in both phones are identical; the primary camera is a Sony Lytia 700 model with a 50-megapixel sensor and an F1.9 maximum aperture, complete with built-in optical image stabilization. Both devices support JPEG and RAW formats for capturing images. Besides this, they also have an ultrawide camera of 13 megapixels at 120 degrees and a 5-megapixel macro camera.

To ensure they can efficiently dissipate heat and maintain optimal performance, ASUS has incorporated advanced cooling solutions into both models. The built-in ROG GameCool 9 internal cooling systems operate independently or can be combined with the attachable AeroActive Cooler X Pro external cooler for enhanced temperature management.

The sound systems on these phones utilize OZO Audio technology, a smart system that minimizes background noise such as wind, while creating realistic 3D audio with exceptional clarity.

As a mobile gamer, I appreciate the convenience of playing games without an external controller. That’s why I love ASUS’ AirTrigger touch system! It transforms the top corners of my phone into virtual “L” and “R” shoulder triggers. When I press these spots, I get haptic feedback, letting me know that my button push has been successfully registered by the device.

Today, you can purchase both the ASUS ROG Phone 9 and its Pro variant. The standard model costs £949.99 GBP / $999.99 USD, while the Pro version retails for £999.99 GBP / $1,199.99 USD. For those seeking additional storage, the 1TB version of the ROG Phone 9 Pro will set you back £1,299.99 GBP / $1,499.99 USD.
