It’s been exclusively revealed by The Hollywood Reporter that Aura Entertainment has taken over the directorial debut of Anderson .Paak, titled “K-Pops!“.
This film acquisition follows its U.S. debut at the 2025 Tribeca Festival, having been premiered previously at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival. Produced by Stampede Ventures and Live Nation Productions, the movie features Anderson .Paak, Jonnie “Dumbfoundead” Park, Yvette Nicole Brown, and Anderson .Paak’s real-life son, Soul Rasheed.
After showing at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival last year, the movie was recently shown at the 2025 Tribeca Festival in the U.S., where it was acquired. The film is produced by Stampede Ventures and Live Nation Productions and stars Anderson .Paak, Jonnie “Dumbfoundead” Park, Yvette Nicole Brown, and his real-life son, Soul Rasheed.
Marc Goldberg, CEO, declared that ‘K-Pops!’ is an ideal match for our Aura lineup due to its double-edged talent in front of and behind the camera. Anderson .Paak infuses the story with immense emotion, wit, and genuine authenticity. As K-pop’s influence expands throughout the U.S., this film promises to be an excellent choice for ringing in the New Year.
The movie chronicles the journey of musician BJ (.Paak) as he pursues his dream of becoming famous. In essence, “K-Pops!” tells the story of an aging American musician who finds a potential comeback when he learns about his forgotten K-pop star son’s success. However, as he immerses himself in the realm of boy bands and viral popularity, he realizes that fatherhood encompasses more than just being in the limelight.
I can’t contain my enthusiasm to unveil the ‘K-Pops!’ movie to viewers,” Paak expressed in a statement. “This production is deeply meaningful to me, as I collaborated with my son every step of the way. Stampede, Big Dummy, EST, and Live Nation have been fantastic collaborators during the creation of this film, and I’m ecstatic to welcome Aura to our team. Their innovative approach gives me confidence that this movie will make a significant impact.
Prior to the 2024 TIFF debut, .Paak shared with THR that the movie concept emerged during the COVID-19 lockdown, sparked by his son expressing a desire to become a YouTuber. The Grammy Award-winning artist disclosed that he and his son initially played around with skits as they began this venture. As .Paak discovered his son’s talent for improvisation, he became increasingly engrossed. “I got really into it. I was filming all of them and I stayed up late to edit the videos so we could publish them,” he stated.
At the moment, our entire household has been captivated by K-pop. Although his mother is fully Korean and I’m part Korean as well, I was unaware of my own Korean heritage. I’ve been encouraging him to explore his African-American roots instead, jokingly saying, “You know about BTS, but what about BET?” He continued, sharing a hypothetical scenario: What if I hadn’t played a role in his upbringing, he had grown up in Korea, and we later discovered each other – learning about our distinct cultures would then be essential.
The upcoming film titled “K-Pops!” is a joint creation by .Paak and Khaila Amazan, slated for release in January 2026. This production is overseen by Greg Silverman and Jon Berg from Stampede Ventures, Jaeson Ma of EST Studios, .Paak and Park, with executive producers such as Chris Bosco, Michael Tadross, Gideon Yu, and Grant Torre (all from Stampede Ventures), Michael Rapino and Ryan Kroft (Live Nation Productions), Eric Tu (EST Studios), Jeffrey Azoff and Anna Savage (Full Stop Management), Khaila Amazan, and Kevin Nishimura.
