Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha actress Tabu reveals Shekhar Kapur once made her sign THIS film but 'ran away' midway

As a dedicated fan of Tabu’s remarkable acting career, I am constantly in awe of her versatility and talent. Her experiences with Shekhar Kapur are a testament to her perseverance and determination in the face of adversity.

Tabu, preparing for the release of “Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha,” is a versatile actress in Bollywood known for her impressive acting skills. She has showcased her talent in films such as “Maqbool,” “The Namesake,” “Haider,” and “Fitoor,” among others.

In the beginning of her acting journey, Tabu nearly teamed up with Shekhar Kapur for movie productions. Unfortunately, their partnership didn’t materialize fully. Recently, Tabu shared an old memory about how Shekhar intended to cast her in two different projects.

Shekhar Kapur wanted to cast Tabu in Dushmani

When I reflect on my past, I recall an instance where my life took an unexpected turn. It was during a visit to my esteemed aunt Shabana Azmi’s house as a teenage girl, that the renowned filmmaker Shekhar Kapur discovered me. Impressed by my potential, he decided to cast me in his then-upcoming project, Dushmani, while I was still in the 10th standard.

The actress from Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha expressed her confidence in working with Tabu after she passed her board exams. Subsequently, Tabu was cast as the leading lady opposite Sunny Deol in the film. Initially reluctant to join the project, the actress was eventually persuaded by the director.

After Tabu had signed on for the role, the production of the project came to a halt. Subsequently, she enrolled in college.

Shekhar Kapur met Tabu again and convinced her to sign Prem

Tabu mentioned that following two years of college, Shekhar Kapur reencountered her and sought her out to star as his “heroine” in the 1995 film, Prem. This transpired after he had tried out hundreds of other girls for the part, according to Tabu’s account.

At first, the actress declined his proposal, recalling her words, “I had agreed to Dushmani but now I regretted, expressing, ‘I don’t wish to act; instead, I yearn for learning and traveling abroad.'”

Tabu signed the project but Shekhar Kapur left it midway

Shekhar proposed that Tabu star in the movie and offered to sponsor her education overseas. In return, Tabu consented to join the cast of “Prem.” However, mid-production, Shekhar unexpectedly withdrew from the film, as Tabu later shared in a conversation.

Tabu was unable to speak with the director because he wasn’t reachable at the time. The actress expressed regret for having agreed to work on “Prem” instead of focusing on her education.

Tabu shared that she began filming for “Prem” back in 1988. The movie eventually hit theaters in 1995. Satish Kaushik, a late actor-director, was appointed to oversee the project. The cast included Sanjay Kapoor, Aruna Irani, and Amrish Puri.
