If you adore the escapades of Aang, Katara, Toph, Sokka, Zuko, and others from Avatar: The Last Airbender, this news might bring you great delight. The 20th Anniversary Tour of Avatar: The Last Airbender in Concert is set to commence on Sunday, September 14 in Iowa City, and it’s slated to visit over 80 cities globally, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Boston, London, Berlin, Vienna, Zurich, Stockholm, as well as many others. This was announced by Paramount Global and its Nickelodeon on Tuesday.
More locations will be unveiled at a later stage.
The 2024-launched live orchestral concert series based on Nickelodeon’s popular TV shows returns, but with an exciting update. Nickelodeon owner Paramount Global and tour producers GEA Live and Senbla describe it as a “one-of-a-kind cinematic experience.” They claim this special anniversary edition offers a two-hour visual journey through all three seasons of the famous animated series, displayed on a big cinema screen. New elements and creative surprises have been added to celebrate the show’s legacy and offer fresh insights into its history.
Twenty years ago, on February 21, 2005, the initial run of “Avatar: The Last Airbender” was first aired. This series, with its beloved cast of characters, has since grown to be a significant trademark for Paramount, spawning various spin-offs such as “The Legend of Korra”, a live-action adaptation on Netflix, a new animated series titled “Avatar: Seven Havens” by Nickelodeon, a series of books, and an upcoming movie in theaters, among other expansions.
Pam Kaufman, head of International Markets at Paramount, said that the live performance of ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender in Concert’ is a fantastic way to celebrate the 20th anniversary of this franchise, strengthening the bond between fans and the original series. We’re excited to share this event in various cities globally, with some exciting extras planned for concertgoers.
The company hasn’t disclosed any specifics about these upcoming surprises yet. However, a source close to the production has hinted that the special edition will feature “novel surprises, extended scenes, and unique artistic touches tailored exclusively for this significant tour,” providing fans with new avenues to engage with their beloved stories and characters.
Floris Douwes, GEA Live’s producer and managing director, along with Ollie Rosenblatt, Senbla’s CEO, praised the success of the past concert tour. “Since its debut in 2024, the tour has performed over 200 shows globally and sold approximately 400,000 tickets, making this a remarkable milestone seldom achieved and demonstrating how profoundly this series strikes a chord with fans of various age groups.
At these concerts, they swap out the pre-recorded score for a live orchestra playing the music of Emmy Award-winning composer Jeremy Zuckerman, who created the show’s original music. This live performance matches perfectly with the action on screen due to his collaboration with original series editor Jeff Adams during the production process.
Back when I began working on ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’, it was a wishful thought that the music would be played by an orchestra,” shared Zuckerman. “Fast forward over 20 years, and with the concert tour, this dream has materialized in a way beyond my wildest expectations. To see the Avatar community of fans – so vibrantly diverse – unite to honor the show through its music is deeply moving for me. The excitement at these concerts is something I’ve never encountered before.
Zuckerman, a two-time Daytime Emmy Award winner in the Outstanding Sound Editing – Animation category for his work on Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness, has a diverse musical background, spanning film and TV scores, traditional Chinese music, sonic art, and concert compositions.

As a gamer, I’m excited about the variety of musical instruments that’ll be played at the Avatar concert. Expect to hear rhythmic beats from the Japanese taiko drums and the melodious notes of the erhu, a Chinese two-stringed instrument often likened to a spike fiddle. The organizers promise us an incredible experience with “strings soaring high” and “delicate woodwinds.
Tickets for the “Avatar: The Last Airbender in Concert – The 20th Anniversary Tour” will be available for purchase starting this coming Friday, May 2nd, on the official website at avatarinconcert.com.
