In keeping with James Cameron’s signature style, the filmmaker aims to take the Avatar universe to even grander scales with “Avatar: Fire and Ash”. A tantalizing glimpse at the third installment of the Avatar saga hints at an awe-inspiring conflict that spans both skies and seas. This rumored confrontation is said to outshine the climax in The Way of Water, making it appear almost trivial by comparison.
In the upcoming tale, titled “Avatar: Fire and Ash“, we’ll encounter numerous fresh Na’vi factions. Among them are the flame-wielding Ash People, a fire tribe, and the Air Traders, nomads of the skies. Yet, the menace of the Resource Development Administration (RDA) persists. Following a devastating loss inflicted by Jake Sully’s kinfolk and the Metkayina tribe, with valuable assistance from the beloved tulkun, Payakan, the RDA is back for retribution.
In conversation with Empire magazine, Ben Procter – the production designer for Avatar: Fire and Ash – mentioned, “You’re going to witness an epic airborne and water-borne battle that spans across time, as the forces of Pandora and RDA engage in a truly captivating environment.” He emphasized that this confrontation will be so vast it will make the aquatic battle depicted in Avatar: Fire and Ash seem like merely a small skirmish.
The peak of “Avatar: The Way of Water” is among James Cameron’s most impressive achievements, blending some of the finest aspects from “Titanic”, “Terminator 2: Judgement Day”, “Aliens”, “True Lies”, and the original “Avatar”. It appears that he will surpass this with his upcoming work, titled “Fire and Ash”.
A piece of concept art presented to Empire (as shown) showcased the RDA’s latest weapon – a colossal Factory Ship, which dwarfs the enormous space whales known as tulkun from Avatar: The Way of Water. This new weapon, according to Proctor, functions like a massive oil platform, specifically engineered to capture and process the tulkun on an industrial scale. Proctor further explained that this moving platform is essentially geared towards exploiting the tulkun resources on a grand scale.
From these vehicles emerges a massive force, and this sets the stage for a battle unlike any we’ve witnessed. In the final installment of Avatar 3, viewers can expect a level of conflict on an unprecedented scale.
Fire and Ash will blend the underwater combat from Avatar: The Way of Water with the simultaneous conflicts on two fronts that were present in the original Avatar. The ending of the original film featured an aerial battle between the Na’vi and RDA high up in Pandora’s floating mountains, along with a ground offensive led by the Olangi clan of horse riders. Eventually, many creatures from Pandora’s wildlife joined this epic struggle.
In a grand, high-budget production designed for the cinema experience, “Avatar: Fire and Ash” aims to replicate the financial success of its predecessors, holding the top spots as the first and third highest-earning films globally.
Does This Hint at a Tragic End for the Na’vi?
In the grand scale of the climactic fight, reminiscent of both ‘Avatar’ and its sequel ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’, it seems plausible that significant characters may meet their end in the movie. The possibility arises that the weapon capable of trapping Tulkun could signal trouble for Payakan. It appears unlikely that the RDA would take the life of Neytiri, given her central role within the series and actress Zoe Saldaña’s impending Academy Award contention. Yet, it’s possible that Jake Sully, the main character of the franchise, could meet his demise during this epic confrontation.
It’s been confirmed that Jake Sully’s son Lo’ak will serve as the narrator for “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” which is the third film in a five-part series. Interestingly, James Cameron has suggested that “Avatar: Fire and Ash” might also wrap up the story if necessary. This implies a possible end to Jake Sully’s journey (which began in “Avatar”), setting the stage for future films focused on his wife, Netiryi, and their children as they grow into adulthood, should Jake Sully meet his demise.
