Avengers: Doomsday Cast Has MCU Fans Wondering Where Spider-Man Is

Supporters of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) were filled with joy as Marvel Studios confirmed the additions to the cast of Avengers: Doomsday, with Robert Downey Jr. leading the way. Notably, Chris Hemsworth will reprise his role as Thor, and several actors who appeared in either Avengers: Infinity War or Avengers: Endgame are also set to return, such as Paul Rudd, Sebastian Stan, and Tom Hiddleston. However, it’s hard not to notice the omission of some key contributors from the Marvel Cinematic Universe that weren’t mentioned in the casting updates. For example, a popular YouTuber swiftly pointed out in the announcement video’s comments that Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland, was not included. @0Sniix commented:

“Where is Tom Holland’ we all say in unison.”

It’s understandable why Holland isn’t in Doomsday and it’s expected that he’ll rejoin the Avengers in 2027’s film, Avengers: Secret Wars. MCU fans know that Peter Parker (Holland) made a significant sacrifice at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home. To protect Earth from all of Spider-Man’s multiverse foes, Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) cast a spell making everyone forget that Peter Parker is Spider-Man. As a result, Pete is probably busy trying to rebuild his life while he’s on his own in New York.

Meanwhile, @nikunjdixit1175 was worried about someone a bit more powerful at first:

“Honestly, where is Doctor Strange was my first thought. Spider-man, Hulk right after that.”

In my opinion, it seems like Robert Downey Jr. (RDJ) is the sole survivor in an otherwise vacant theater, as the character he portrays, Doom, eliminates the entire cast by the film’s conclusion.

In the movie Doomsday, since Holland’s Spider-Man character is missing, none of the Avengers would recognize Peter Parker. However, it makes sense that they should recall Spider-Man — only not his hidden identity. It’s expected that the enchantment will be lifted in Spider-Man 4, which hits theaters two months (July 2026) following Doomsday’s release. Besides Spidey and Doctor Strange, there were several notable absences: Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye, and the present Sorcerer Supreme, Wong, were all missing from the action. But don’t worry, Marvel still has a few tricks up its sleeve with their “doomed” storyline to unveil.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Will Feature Even More MCU Characters

News about Marvel’s “Avengers: Doomsday” casting has sparked curiosity among fans online, as they question why their beloved MCU characters weren’t mentioned in the initial announcement. Just like many dedicated fans, such as @GradyBeach, there’s hope that Doctor Strange (the Master of the Mystic Arts) will make an appearance in the 2026 sequel. Interestingly, it seems that Stephen Strange might indeed be part of the storyline, as a writer from The Hollywood Reporter hinted that Marvel Studios intends to incorporate more characters into “Doomsday” before wrapping up production. According to various sources, it appears that there are around 26 actors currently linked to #AvengersDoomsday, but Marvel still has some surprises up their sleeve regarding additional actors involved in the project.

It’s not surprising that “Doomsday” became a popular topic following the casting announcement. However, the buzz wasn’t solely due to the Marvel Cinematic Universe actors who weren’t selected. Even without Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff, Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, Don Cheadle as War Machine, or any of the “Guardians of the Galaxy” cast members, fans were content with the chosen actors.
