In approximately 6 hours of scrutinizing chairs, Marvel enthusiasts have been enlightened about the main cast for Avengers: Doomsday, as 27 actors were disclosed to spearhead this grand production. However, according to Robert Downey Jr., who will portray the movie’s primary antagonist, Doctor Doom, there might be further surprises in store. Although the remaining cast members were absent, Marvel Studios only displayed their chairs on set. Downey Jr., in a fitting finale to the extended announcement video, silenced the camera and pointed at his chair’s name. The announcement featured anticipated actors like Chris Hemsworth, characters whose MCU futures were ambiguous, such as Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi, and even some veteran X-Men stars. But, thanks to a recent hint from Downey Jr. and Marvel Studios, there could be additional casting reveals in the near future.
After watching the extensive casting video on Instagram, posted by Marvel, Robert Downey Jr. left a comment under it, saying, “Indeed, that’s what you call an impressive pool of talent…” He then playfully poked fun at the large cast size before ending with a hint of uncertainty, “Is this it… or am I missing something?” Similarly, 770 other fans responded to his comment, and Marvel Studios’ official account joined in, hinting that the five-and-a-half hours we spent watching chairs was merely the start. Their reply read:
“Just the beginning, indeed.
“There’s always room for more.”
Despite several anticipated actors being featured in the cast reveal video for Avengers: Doomsday, some notable names were conspicuously absent, such as Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange. Although there have been persistent rumors about Spider-Man’s role in the film, his name was nowhere to be found on any chair. Similarly, Cumberbatch confirmed his return as Doctor Strange in both Doomsday and Secret Wars, yet he too was absent from the new video. The latest buzz on social media aligns with a recent report by The Hollywood Reporter suggesting that further cast announcements will be made closer to the release date of Avengers: Doomsday – May 1, 2026.
