Even six years post-Endgame, its impact on the MCU continues, making it one of the most iconic superhero films ever produced.

It’s not surprising that there were many components involved in creating and executing a movie as grand as Avengers: Endgame, given its extensive plotline. An often-overlooked aspect is the film’s title, which underwent significant changes from its initial announcement to the final version. This change could have had a substantial impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe compared to simply naming it Avengers: Endgame.

It’s worth noting that the title and release date of the fourth Avengers film underwent modifications. Originally scheduled for May 3, it ultimately hit theaters on April 26, 2019. The movie’s title was initially unnamed following a 2016 announcement about both it and Avengers: Infinity War’s titles, which had removed any reference to parts. This decision helped distinguish the two releases more clearly, preventing Infinity War from appearing as merely Part 1. The final title of the film was revealed to be Avengers: Endgame.

The Russo brothers shared their reasoning behind this choice at the time, with Joe Russo saying, “We aimed to make the movie unique and standout. In my opinion, the final titles for the movies turned out to be more fitting than the initial ones when they were first announced, and this change might have significantly contributed to the enduring legacy of Avengers: Endgame. It’s worth pondering whether the Marvel Cinematic Universe will adopt this naming approach consistently or if it will only serve as a placeholder to conceal titles until their appropriate reveal.
