Avowed, when it launched earlier this year, left a strong impression on RPG enthusiasts due to its likeness to a smaller-scale Elder Scrolls game, boasting superior graphics. The recent 1.5 update aims to enhance the game’s compatibility with Steam Deck. Valve has given their seal of approval for these changes, and now the RPG bears the coveted “Steam Deck Verified” badge. This enables players to experience it with greater confidence.
Enthusiasts of the Steam Deck often find themselves with divided opinions regarding the “Steam Deck Verified” rating, as it doesn’t always accurately depict a game’s playability on the handheld device. Many fans continue to experience unsettling memories when recalling their experience playing Baldur’s Gate 3 on the portable console, despite improvements made since then. Developer Obsidian seems to have put extra effort into optimizing the game for better performance on the portable system, offering specific options that can significantly improve gameplay.
Through an update on Steam (for Linux gaming), Obsidian has confirmed that the graphic upscaling in Avowed will now be disabled intentionally, enhancing the game’s playability on the Deck. Moreover, a 40 FPS limit option has been incorporated, a choice often favored by Steam Deck users when tweaking their games. As expected with updates, there are also fixes for common bugs included in this one.
As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but feel excited about the upcoming release of Oblivion Remastered and the highly-anticipated Skyblivion project! It’s possible that, amidst all the excitement for these projects, some fellow fans might have overlooked Obsidian’s remarkable RPG masterpiece.
Many Xbox enthusiasts, like myself, may have given it a spin on Game Pass and then been swept away by the myriad of other captivating titles available in that service. However, with the remastered version on the horizon and the Steam Deck continuing to be a favorite among gamers, I can’t help but feel a renewed sense of curiosity about revisiting this classic gem. After all, there’s nothing quite like stepping back into the magical world of Cyrodiil!
Initially, the game Avowed garnered favorable feedback upon release, but it quickly faded from memory within a few months. Despite its quality, it failed to generate significant buzz and somewhat slipped into obscurity as new popular games took center stage. However, if this game eventually becomes available on various platforms, its fortunes could change since Xbox no longer prioritizes exclusivity as highly as before.
