Avowed, Pillars of Eternity fans desperate to explore more of Eora just got good news from Obsidian

Obsidian Entertainment is “pleased” with how well their game, Avowed, is selling, according to a recent report, although they haven’t disclosed specific sales figures. In addition, Carrie Patel, the game’s director, has expressed interest in revisiting the world of Eora, acknowledging the game’s challenging journey to launch.

Based on a report by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier dated February 21, the development of the game “Avowed” faced challenges on its path from idea to release. The project kicked off as early as 2018, but the initial version was eventually scrapped. After Microsoft acquired Obsidian, “Avowed” had to be restarted with a new game director appointed. The game underwent resizing and alterations, but fortunately, things seem to have improved. Obsidian told Schreier they were “satisfied with sales thus far,” though specific numbers weren’t disclosed. Game director Patel, who took charge of the project after its reboot, expressed enthusiasm for building more games based on “Avowed”‘s base and stated that she “would be thrilled to explore further possibilities with it.

Patel mentioned that the team assembled for developing ‘Avowed’ has acquired “the power and habitual skills” that might enable them to deliver on a follow-up or another project set in Eora. This is Obsidian’s third primary game based in the universe initially envisioned for ‘Pillars of Eternity‘, followed by a direct sequel. It seems clear that a vast world awaits exploration, possibly with new games revealing uncharted aspects of this enchanted domain. Patel did not specify the type of game that could be created on the basis of ‘Avowed’, but it might span from another Bethesda-style action-RPG to an extensive cRPG in the vein of the ‘Pillars of Eternity’ series.

It’s clear that a new game in the Eora universe will require some patience. At the moment, Obsidian Entertainment is engrossed in creating The Outer Worlds 2, with plans to release it this year.

Regardless of the current player count on Steam, it appears that Avowed is heading towards success, given its availability on Game Pass and consoles. Despite peaking at approximately 18,000 players according to SteamDB, the platform’s influence cannot be underestimated, especially considering Xbox’s recent aggressive promotion of Game Pass and multi-platform releases. Even highly sought-after console exclusives are now finding their way onto rival platforms like PlayStation due to these strategies.
