Back 2 Back is out now, putting couch co-op in your hands

  • Back 2 Back is out now on iOS and Android
  • It sees you switching places from driving to shooting and vice versa as you cooperate with another player
  • It encourages quick and effective communication to keep you moving and your enemies well behind

When it comes to creating cooperative games for consoles and bringing them to mobile platforms, there have been many challenges. However, some developers have attempted to capitalize on this untapped potential, such as Two Frogs with their latest release, Back 2 Back. This newly launched co-op puzzle game combines fast-paced driving and shoot-’em-up action, putting your reflexes to the test!

In Back 2 Back, one player navigates and avoids obstacles, while the other shoots at chasing robots with a cannon mounted at the back. What makes this game unique is that specific robots can only be defeated by the player whose color is assigned to them!

So, in essence, you’ll have to keep shifting your position repeatedly, while relying on the skill of the incoming player to avoid any approaching obstacles. It’s quite clever how it fosters teamwork and communication, not just by coordinating the right moment for a switch, but also by making sure each player is ready for whatever they encounter when switching viewpoints.

Switch it up

Initially, when I heard about Back 2 Back, I must admit a tinge of perplexity about its mechanics. However, delving deeper into it, I find myself captivated by the innovative approach to mobile local co-op gaming. Unlike other games that merely pass as party games (like Jackbox), this method seems to offer an engaging and unique translation of local multiplayer experience to mobile devices.

Team Two Frogs has hinted at developing several additional features, potentially expanding the variety of modes and adding complexity to an already intriguing launch! It’s definitely worth keeping tabs on.
