Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, fresh off the success of Costao, has once again found himself in the spotlight, this time due to his outspoken criticism towards the censor board’s influence over Bollywood movies. He openly criticized the edits enforced by the board. In addition, during an interview, Siddiqui expressed concern that Indian films are frequently subjected to mockery on a global platform.
During a conversation with Lallantop Cinema, Nawazuddin Siddiqui voiced his disapproval of frequent censorship board interventions in India, arguing that such edits frequently distort a film’s intended message and completely eliminate the director’s unique perspective. He underscored that this relentless alteration hinders Indian cinema’s ability to flourish creatively and shine on an international platform.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d like to share my perspective: In my opinion, if the excessive censorship in Indian cinema persists, it may hinder its global influence. It’s essential to recognize that films from other countries are often produced with creative liberty and welcomed openly. For Indian cinema to command international respect, it needs to adapt and match this level of freedom and innovation.
Nawazuddin highlighted movies such as “All We Imagine As Light” and “Court,” both celebrated on international stages, as proof that Indian cinema can truly shine when it embraces creativity and uniqueness.
As a follower dedicated to Indian cinema, I emphasize that if censorship persists in its current state, our films may never achieve the world-class status they deserve and will continue to be met with derision at international events. In simpler terms, I’d say, “The films that go abroad are often met with laughter as to what this is.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui added that during screenings of Indian films at international festivals, directors are frequently inquired about extended dance routines and asked what happens to the dancers afterward. He noted that even the typical scenario, where protagonists strum guitars on bustling streets, is being scrutinized as well.
Yet, the Thama actor asserted that to succeed internationally, realistic movies must display uncut scenes. In his opinion, such uncensored portrayals are crucial for making an impact on a global scale. Furthermore, he pointed out that these small independent films play a significant role in earning respect and recognition for the country.
Currently, Nawazuddin Siddiqui has been acting in a crime drama named Costao, directed by Sejal Shah. In this film, he portrays a customs officer. Vinod Bhanushali, Kamlesh Bhanushali, Bhavesh Mandalia, Sejal Shah, Shyam Sunder, and Faizuddin Siddiqui are the producers of the movie. The cast also includes Priya Bapat, Kishore Kumar Huli, Gagan Dev Riar, Hussain Dalal, among others. You can watch Costao on ZEE5.
