This summer, Ballroom Marfa will unveil “Los Encuentros,” a collective exhibition showcasing freshly produced works from five groundbreaking Latinx artists – Ozzie Juarez, Justin Favela, Antonio Lechuga, Narsiso Martinez and Yvette Mayorga. These artists are united by the charm of ordinary materials.
The showcase of painting, sculpture, and installation consistently reflects a dedication to community, teamwork, and the representation of Latinx culture. Being near Mexico gives it an extra depth of context. The artists collectively challenge colonial narratives, accessibility problems, and the connection between personal experiences and work. Simultaneously, they stay committed to portraying and interacting with the people and places that are central to their art.
According to the gallery’s latest announcement, the artists’ inviting and alluring works foster intimate, welcoming, and relatable encounters that reflect their own lives while simultaneously questioning traditional art norms, tackling themes of class, boundaries, and culture with wit, respect, and emotion.
The exhibition will open on July 4 and remain on view through October 12.
