Barack and Michelle Obama Endorse Kamala Harris for President: “This is Going to Be Historic”

As a huge fan of politics and history, I am absolutely thrilled to see Vice President Kamala Harris receive the endorsement of former Presidents Barack and Michelle Obama. The significance of this moment is not lost on me, given the historic nature of Harris’ potential presidency as the first woman and first person of color to hold the office.

Barack and Michelle Obama have announced their support for Vice President Kamala Harris in her bid for the presidency. They made this known during a private conversation with Harris, which was recorded and shared on social media and her YouTube channel on Friday morning.

In the brief video lasting nearly a minute, Harris can be observed answering a call from the Obamas while strolling along.

“Hello there, nice to see you two together,” Harris greets, as she answers the call with Barack excitedly calling out, “Kamala!” Michelle then adds, expressing her pride, “I’m thrilled to say this to you, Kamala, I am so proud of you. This moment is truly historic.”

Barack Obama assumes the role to deliver the long-awaited speech following President Joe Biden’s announcement on Sunday that he would step down “for the good of my party and the nation.”

I’m thrilled beyond words to endorse you and offer my full support in your bid for office. Michelle and I are incredibly proud of you, and we’ll do everything in our power to help you win this election and take up residence in the White House.

I’m thrilled, Michelle and Barack, that we get to embark on this journey together with Doug as well. I’m excited about hitting the road and making a difference. But what truly touches my heart are your words and the friendship you’ve shown me throughout the years. I can’t fully express how much it means to me, so I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. And I know we’re going to have a great time doing this, right?

We’re thrilled and beam with pride for our daughter, Kamala. Barack and I are elated to announce our endorsement of her as the Democratic nominee. Her contagious positivity, wit, and inspiring ability to spread light and hope make her an exceptional choice for the country. We’re fully behind you, @KamalaHarris!

The sought after endorsement from the Obamas was the last major seal of approval on the Democratic side for Harris. After Biden’s shock announcement that he was ending his re-election campaign on July 21 and news that he was backing Harris’ run, a deluge of Democratic politicians, donors and media figures quickly coalesced around the vice president.

Within a short timeframe after launching her campaign, Harris received endorsements from various notable figures in the Democratic party. These included former Presidents Bill and Hillary Clinton, ex-Speaker Nancy Pelosi, 23 Democratic governors such as Gretchen Whitmer, Gavin Newsom, Josh Shapiro, Andy Beshear, Tim Walz, Roy Cooper, and J. B. Pritzker, as well as numerous Democratic politicians in both the Senate and House of Representatives.

Recently, Michelle and I had a conversation with Kamala Harris. We expressed our belief that she would excel as the President of the United States and shared our unwavering backing. In these pivotal times for America, we are determined to help ensure her victory.

By July 22, the vice president had earned sufficient support from state delegates to secure the Democratic Party’s nomination and be recognized as its presumptive candidate.

Within just a few days, Harris has sparked democratic excitement akin to Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign.

I have had the privilege of witnessing history being made during the Obama era. When Barack Obama was elected as the 44th President of the United States in 2008, it was a groundbreaking moment for me and for the country. As an African American myself, seeing a fellow black man take residence in the White House filled me with pride and hope. His election represented progress towards racial equality and proved that anyone, regardless of their race or background, could achieve the highest office in the land.

If Harris manages to win against Trump in November, she will make history by becoming the United States’ first female and first president of color. She previously broke barriers when she was elected vice president under Biden, making her the country’s initial woman, Black American, and South Asian American in this role. Born in Oakland, California, Harris is the daughter of immigrants. Her mother, Shyamala Gopalan, hailed from India, while her father, Donald Jasper Harris, came from Jamaica.

The Harris campaign has shattered several fundraising records, bringing in an astonishing $200 million via ActBlue since July 21, predominantly from small contributors. According to The New York Times, Harris-supporting super PACs have additionally amassed $150 million in donations.
