Mattel has revealed plans to bring back a beloved children’s TV character from the 1990s and 2000s, scheduled for release in early 2023. Alongside the revival of the animated show, Mattel intends to produce a variety of products targeted at their primary demographic – young children
Mattel Television Studios aims to create and share episodic and feature-length content that extends Mattel’s characters and storylines over both traditional broadcast and streaming services globally, as stated by Josh Silverman, Mattel’s chief franchise officer. Excitedly, we’re reviving Barney once more for fans worldwide, hoping to instill a lasting impact on younger generations through this updated adaptation while reinforcing messages that foster growth in a positive manner
In the fictional realm of Barney’s World, the story unfolds within a playground setting. Here, the main character Barney, accompanied by his dinosaur companions Baby Bop and Billy, embark on exciting journeys alongside human friends David, Mel, and Vivie. These adventures are thoughtfully crafted to encourage young viewers to understand and navigate “significant preschool feelings” while demonstrating the importance of self-love, empathy towards others, and active participation in their communities
“Vanessa Brookman, from Warner Bros. Discovery, expressed excitement about teaming up with Mattel. The aim is to create a revitalized version of Barney that appeals to today’s preschoolers globally. This innovative animated series plans to mix nostalgia with contemporary storytelling, maintaining the charm of the iconic purple dinosaur while keeping it fresh and relevant for new generations, inspiring, educating, and entertaining young viewers.”
In the Disney’s “Zombies” series, it is Jonathan Langdon who lends his voice to the character of Barney. The show’s ensemble also includes Bryn McAuley, Jonathan Tan, Jayd Deroché, Diana Tsoy, and Ella Paciocco
