The game “Batman: Arkham Knight” is often criticized as one of the poorest Switch adaptations ever made, given its unsuitability for handheld gaming. With the rumored enhancement in power of the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, fans are eagerly awaiting an upgrade to this port of Batman’s darkest video game journey, hoping it will rectify all issues.
It’s common knowledge that Nintendo will provide $10 upgrades for certain games, but let’s hope that Arkham Knight won’t be among them. Fans should be given a free upgrade to ensure this game runs smoothly, as it was unjustifiable for Warner Bros. to charge money at all for the port.
Fans have long complained about the poor performance of switch consoles in terms of running games, but there was a glimmer of hope for Batman: Arkham Knight. This handheld console hybrid has shown it can handle some impressive ports, and fans were optimistic that this Batman adventure would be one of them. Given that DOOM 2016 and The Witcher 3 have both run smoothly on Switch, there was reason to believe that Arkham Knight could as well.
Fast-forward to when the game was released; it became evident that this wasn’t going to be one of those remarkable games transformed from other platforms with extraordinary success.
The frame rate of “Batman: Arkham Knight” was poor, even by the standards of Switch port games. Unlike titles such as The Witcher 3 or DOOM, the performance issues in Arkham Knight have a significant impact on gameplay, making it challenging to glide and drive the Batmobile smoothly. Since this is an open-world game, moving around freely is crucial, and experiencing these choppy moments was disappointing.
Warner Bros. initially failed to give fans the option to purchase Arkham Asylum and Arkham City separately from Arkham Knight for several months after their release. This meant that even if fans only wanted two of these games, they had to buy all three. It wasn’t until many months later that fans could purchase Arkham Asylum and Arkham City without having Arkham Knight attached; unfortunately, this left fans stuck with the subpar port for a prolonged period of time.
Funny enough, I’ve always encountered some sort of hiccup when diving into the world of Batman: Arkham Knight. PC gamers will recall the dreadful version we initially got, plagued by constant stutters and crashes that made the game almost unplayable. At one point, it was so bad that Rocksteady had to pull the port, even going as far as offering refunds to those who’d invested countless hours in an attempt to smooth out the experience.
Currently, PC players enjoy the optimized version of Arkham Knight. Remarkably, this enhanced edition can be smoothly played on the Steam Deck without encountering any complications. Incredibly, playing this improved version on the Steam Deck is more straightforward than Arkham Asylum, which necessitates a custom Proton setup to run effectively.
Fans who purchased Batman: Arkham Knight on the Nintendo Switch should not be required to pay an additional fee for a corrected version of the game, given that it’s just fixing issues. However, considering Warner Bros.’ history, they might demand payment for this upgrade as well.
