Batman Will Be Honored with Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame in September

As a long-time admirer of all things Batman, this news has left me utterly thrilled! It’s simply fantastic to see our caped crusader being honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, joining the ranks of legendary figures from both film and comics.

The eccentric persona associated with Bruce Wayne, popularly known as Batman, is set for a significant update, particularly regarding his impressive gadgets, much like how the Joker (played by Jack Nicholson) might put it. To be more precise, this iconic character from DC Comics will soon have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame – marking its 2,790th addition according to a press release. The ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, September 26, with Steve Nissen, President and CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, serving as the host. Notably, Jim Lee, President, CEO, and publisher of DC Comics, will also be among the speakers at this event.

1) It’s announced that Batman, a fictional character known for his appearances in comic books drawn by Lee, who also created iconic characters such as Marvel’s X-Men, will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next week. The honor is given in the “Motion Pictures” category. Additionally, Batman will be awarded the Guinness World Record for being the first superhero to have a star on the Walk of Fame. DC Comics’ Senior Vice President and General Manager Anne DePies will join Lee at the ceremony, while Michael Empric, an official Guinness World Records adjudicator, will present the record.

Batman made his debut in Detective Comics issue 27 (1939), marking a significant milestone as it recently celebrated its 85th anniversary. This iconic character was brought to life by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger. The origins of the Dark Knight came shortly after Superman’s introduction in Action Comics issue 1 (1938). However, it wasn’t until Detective Comics issue 38 (1940) that the original Robin, Dick Grayson, teamed up with Batman.

This year, with Chris Hemsworth from the Marvel Cinematic Universe receiving a star, it seems fitting that the induction of Batman onto the Hollywood Walk of Fame takes place shortly after Tim Burton’s honoring on September 3. Notably, Burton directed the comeback of Batman to the big screen in 1989’s “Batman” and its sequel, “Batman Returns” (1992), with Michael Keaton portraying both the Bat and Bruce Wayne.

Fans of Batman can catch a live stream of the Dark Knight receiving his Hollywood Walk of Fame star on Thursday, September 26 at 11 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time. The ceremony will be held outside the Hollywood Guinness World Records Museum, located at 6764 Hollywood Boulevard. According to Ana Martinez, producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Batman’s star will stand alongside those of creator Bob Kane and TV actor Adam West (as per the official website). Martinez added:

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce takes great pride in bestowing our first superhero with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! None other than Batman himself will receive this honor, standing alongside the stars of television’s Batman, Adam West, and the man who co-created Batman, Bob Kane. Fans worldwide are eager to learn that this special recognition is coming for their beloved superhero.

Alongside the star dedication ceremony for Batman at the Hollywood Walk of Fame, unique interactive activities are planned to provide a captivating encounter for fans who attend, as they pay tribute to one of pop culture’s most iconic and adored characters. The DC Comics superhero recently received a significant recognition that was well-earned, similar to Ewan McGregor from Star Wars who got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on September 12. Notably, Hayden Christensen, the actor who portrayed Darth Vader in Star Wars, gave a speech in honor of McGregor’s achievement.

And don’t forget to celebrate Batman Day 2024 on
September 21.
