Having traversed the bustling streets of Tokyo and New York City countless times, I’ve developed an appreciation for the subtle nuances each city brings to the table. This capsule collection is a testament to that very fusion – Japanese tradition meets American practicality, all wrapped up in a delightful bow of “quiet luxury.
As a passionate gamer, I’m thrilled to share that my longtime collaborators BEAMS PLUS and Engineered Garments have revealed a collection of must-haves, marking the second release in their rejuvenated PEG line. This collaboration has resulted in an array of USA-crafted sweats, seamlessly blending the Japanese brand’s appreciation for American heritage with the NY-based studio’s focus on robust design and construction.
Engineered Garments primarily focuses on woven items, but it stands out with unique features such as well-placed pockets and metal fastenings. Unusual elements like rear kangaroo pockets on tops and adjustable collar straps on hoodies reflect the brand’s distinct aesthetic. Even though jersey sweatshirts, cardigans, and hoodies are common in BEAMS PLUS’ diverse collection of 20th-century-inspired pieces, Engineered Garments adds a sense of “quiet luxury” to the collaboration. The pair released a modest range of two colors: heather gray and classic navy blue. This minimalist approach encourages versatile layering, as showcased in the campaign’s cozy styling.
In the year 2024, the joint brand name PEG was revived, which had been used by these two partners for their collaborative projects since their partnership began in the early 2000s. The first product under this new name was a PEG Chambray shirt that hit stores in late August. Meanwhile, BEAMS PLUS has been actively involved in recent collaborations, such as a patchwork jacket with Arc’teryx and a new clog design with Crocs.
