Bearplane lets you ram into your enemies as a rocket-powered bear with a 1940s aesthetic, coming soon

Occasionally, we encounter an intriguing slice of history that’s simply too extraordinary not to discuss, and this is precisely what transpired with indie developer Matthew Burton in the game titled Bearplane – a fitting name for a side-scrolling shooter where you play as a bear piloting a plane. However, it’s essential to clarify that you’re not literally in a plane; instead, you are the plane itself, in a sense, being a bear securely fastened to a rocket with no mercy but immense power.

In Bearplane, you eliminate your adversaries by colliding with them, charring them, or making such a deafening noise their insides literally rupture. You perform these actions while sporting a cheerful grin and accompanied by a lively big-band soundtrack playing in the background – a tune so infectious I’m tempted to add it to my Spotify playlist immediately.

It’s particularly fascinating to note that Bearplane draws inspiration from a real bear who fought in World War II, serving under the Polish army. Remarkably, this bear named Wojtek was not only given the rank of Corporal – a fact that leaves me utterly amazed.

If you find yourself struggling against your opponents, consider joining forces with Rocket Rat in local cooperative play. After all, having two rocket-equipped creatures on your side is always more effective than one!
