‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ Writers Tackling Horror Anthology Comic ‘Ice Cream Man’ for Screen Gems (Exclusive)

As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for horror and a soft spot for well-crafted stories, I can hardly contain my excitement about the upcoming adaptation of the chilling comic book series, Ice Cream Man. The involvement of Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the masterminds behind the critically acclaimed ‘Wednesday’ series and the newly released ‘Beetlejuice’ sequel, has me eagerly anticipating a rollercoaster ride through an anthology of terror.

The Ice Cream Man is ready to ring you up a scoop of suffering.

The production company, Screen Gems under Sony’s banner, has obtained the rights to adapt into a movie the chilling horror comic anthology penned by W. Maxwell Prince.

Alfred Gough, Miles Millar – creators of the popular series ‘Wednesday’ and writers for the upcoming ‘Beetlejuice’ film – are set to produce the adaptation through their production company Millar Gough Ink, which is based at Sony. Additionally, Aaron Schmidt from the same company will also be producing.

The Ice Cream Vendor offers various frightening flavors and themes in horror stories, with the central figure, the Ice Cream Man himself, acting as both a friend and potential adversary, potentially an angel or demon. Illustrators Martin Morazzo and Chris O’Halloran collaborate with writer Prince on this project.

The comic has been moving between different stages of production in Hollywood since it first came out from Image Comics in 2018. At one point, it was slated for a series at UCP and later, in 2020, it was in development with the short-form streaming service Quibi. This is the first time the story, which still publishes sporadically, is being adapted into a full-length movie.

The project is in early development and a search for a writer is currently underway.

Gough and Millar have an extensive background in film and television, having contributed to notable projects like Sam Raimi’s hit movie Spider-Man 2, Shanghai Noon, and they even oversaw the successful 10-season run of Smallville, a beloved DC series. In 2022, Wednesday, under the guidance of Tim Burton, set a new record for Netflix as their most-watched English language series ever. Currently, the pair and their production company are busy with season two.

They penned the “Beetlejuice” sequel titled “Beetlejuice,” reconnecting with Tim Burton once again, as well as the “Wednesday” actress Jenna Ortega. This film premieres today and is projected for an enormous box office debut.

Gough and Millar are represented by the talent agency WME, as well as Gendler Kelly. In contrast, Prince and Ice Cream Man are represented by the attorney Matt Sugarman from Weintraub Tobin.
