Before Her Stranger Things Debut, Watch Sci-Fi Legend Linda Hamilton in Resident Alien

Fans of the hit series Stranger Things everywhere are thrilled today, as Netflix unveiled a sneak peek at the upcoming fifth and last season. This season will be divided into three parts, with each part being released on special occasions such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s.

Alongside revealing glimpses of the climactic battle against Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) and his Demogorgon minions from the ominous Upside Down, the footage also offered us our initial sighting of Linda Hamilton, another renowned figure in the genre world who, similar to Winona Ryder, Matthew Modine, Sean Astin, Cary Elwes, Paul Reiser, and Robert Englund, achieved significant stardom in the 1980s.

Known primarily for her roles as Sarah Connor in the Terminator film series and General Eleanor McCallister on the Resident Alien series airing on SYFY and USA Network, it was confirmed that Hamilton signed up for Stranger Things season 5 in the year 2023.

Last year, she shared with US Weekly, “I’ve savored every season. It’s something I truly adore.” However, she admitted feeling like an outsider amidst it all, as if she doesn’t quite belong in that ’80s-set world. This is akin to imposter syndrome.

As a devoted fan, I can say that when you wholeheartedly invest yourself in a project, it becomes more than just a role – it consumes you. Consequently, I find that I can no longer appreciate the production as a viewer once I become a part of it. So, sadly, I won’t be tuning in to watch [Season 5] myself, for fear that seeing myself within its frames would disrupt the immersive experience I used to enjoy.

Who is Linda Hamilton playing in Stranger Things 5?

At this point, there isn’t a lot of information available on the enigmatic, firearm-carrying character from Stranger Things named Dr. Kay, created by Hamilton.

Based on the quick glimpse at her character in the Season 5 teaser, it seems reasonable to infer that her role may involve military or private security work, or perhaps both. Additionally, the title “Doctor” suggests a possible connection with Dr. Martin Brenner, also known as Papa (played by Modine).

During an interview with ComingSoon.net recently, Hamilton discussed the demanding filming timeline that lasted for over a year and necessitated immediate travel to Atlanta: she had to be ready to go at any given moment.

In simpler terms, the actor began working on significant scenes from the very first week. Despite being present prior to that, his initial shooting week was exceptionally busy. He found it overwhelming when he saw the schedule for the first week, feeling that the amount of work was too much given he hadn’t spoken as the character yet. The production didn’t start with the first episode; they were deeply into the second one. Each day they shot, it seemed like a large-scale production involving stunts, special effects, and extensive acting. He thought that due to the magnitude of work, the scenes must be partial productions rather than the entire sequence. This was his first day on set because every day they shoot, they have such big scenes. Does this explanation clarify things for you?

If you’re eager to get a taste of what’s coming in Stranger Things 5, don’t miss out on Hamilton’s antics in Resident Alien, which is now in its fourth season and airing on both SYFY and USA Network (new episodes premiere every Friday at 10 p.m. ET).

All about Linda Hamilton in Resident Alien

Hamilton has been a key member of the “Resident Alien” series since it began in 2021, portraying General Eleanor McCallister – a brusque and UFO-fascinated military officer who is relentless in her pursuit to validate extraterrestrial life.

Eleanor’s fascination with extraterrestrial life traces back to her childhood when her father, a lighthouse keeper in Maine, was falsely accused and driven to suicide by the government following his sighting of an unidentified flying object. Since then, Eleanor has been relentless in validating her father’s claims, even enlisting a tough assistant named Lisa Casper (Mandell Maughan) for some questionable tasks.

During an interview with USA Insider, Hamilton remarked that she was dealing with some deep-seated father-related challenges.

In the heat of Season 3, I lastly grabbed the perfect moment to rectify all wrongs, thanks to some high-tech gear from Grey. This tech created a gateway to the past, and I couldn’t resist inviting Harry (Alan Tudyk) and D’arcy (Alice Wetterlund) along for the ride. So, here we are, stepping back into the groovy ’70s!

Hamilton admitted, “Performing during that specific era was genuinely superior to the ’80s. Fashion-wise and trend-wise, I’m thankful it wasn’t the ’80s [with a chuckle]. The atmosphere of the ’70s, however, was enjoyable.
