Bella Ramsey Cast in Channel 4’s ‘Maya,’ Written by and Co-Starring Daisy Haggard

Bella Ramsey, who plays a significant role in HBO’s “The Last of Us,” is now aiming for another drama series, as Channel 4 officially announces that the talented young performer will feature in Daisy Haggard‘s show titled “Maya.

In this upcoming six-part series, Ramsey will jointly headline the cast. The show is the brainchild of BAFTA-nominated Haggard, who has previously worked on shows like “Back to Life” and “Breeders”. Interestingly, Haggard will not only be the creator but will also play the role of Ramsey’s mother, marking her first directorial venture. Alongside Haggard, Jamie Donoughue will co-direct the show as well.

In the upcoming series titled “Game of Thrones“, Maya, the teenage child of Anna (Haggard), will star as the lead character. To evade a grave peril, Anna and Maya are compelled to enroll in a witness protection program, abandoning their life in London and moving to a tranquil rural town in Scotland under new identities. A summary of the plot reveals that they struggle to adapt to their new surroundings while their past torments them through two relentless assassins who pursue them. As time passes, it becomes apparent that an ominous figure from their history is still a potential menace.

This year, the entire project is set to be shot on-site in Scotland, and we’ll be sharing more about our cast members soon.

Ramsey expressed: “Daisy’s story and characters are remarkably vibrant, complex, darkly amusing, and eerily ominous. Each character leaps from the page, the dialogue is sharp and intelligent, and I can’t wait to portray Maya alongside Daisy’s Anna.

As the visionary behind this show, Haggard, the writer, creator, and co-director, expressed: “From the inception of this project, there has always been one Maya who embodies the role perfectly… I penned the script with Bella specifically in mind, and it’s hard to fathom that she’s willing to join us. Bella possesses a unique magic and unparalleled talent, and I am eagerly anticipating our collaboration. Additionally, I am thrilled about directing for the first time, and I’m grateful for the chance to co-direct this series with the exceptionally gifted Jamie Donoughue.

Maya’s work was assigned by Ollie Madden, the departing head of Film4 and Channel 4 Drama, as well as Gemma Boswell, the drama commissioning editor, for Channel 4.

This production is brought to you by Two Brothers Pictures, an affiliate of All3Media, along with All3Media International.
