The iconic Dunkin’ Donuts tracksuit made its return for Ben Affleck’s Super Bowl LIX commercial. Unlike his packed 30-second ads from last year, this time Affleck directed a mini-movie titled DunKings 2, which is part of your 2025 TV schedule and boasts numerous star-studded appearances. However, the team behind the commercial were unaware that one of their hires for cameo roles was none other than Chris Candy, John Candy’s son, who had an intriguing story unfold when people discovered his identity.
Ben Affleck’s Dunkin’ Donuts commercials are pure gold, jam-packed with celebrities that make you wish the Dunkin’ mascots had their own film. In a hypothetical movie titled “DunKings 2“, Affleck stars in a fictional boy band engaged in a fierce battle against other food chain boy bands. The sequel ad for Super Bowl LIX was one of the standout commercials, boasting numerous star-studded cameos including Jay and Silent Bob, Casey Affleck, former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick, Jeremy Strong, and many others.
You might not realize this, but there’s a surprise appearance in the Super Bowl ad that you shouldn’t miss. If you scrutinize one of the Burger Chain Gang members donning a giant burger hat, it’s none other than Chris Candy, son of the late John Candy! In an interview with TMZ, Chris revealed that he was unaware that Affleck’s DunKings 2 commercial was destined for the Super Bowl. The crew on set were taken aback to learn they were working with John Candy’s son. Upon discovering this, Chris shared a heartwarming experience he had on set with Affleck and the cast.
I quietly slipped in to greet Ben Affleck briefly and introduced myself. He’s a genuinely kind and friendly person, but I managed to sneak in without being noticed, except for the people I worked with on that burger chain project. We ended up discussing my father, and they were huge fans of him. It was enjoyable exchanging stories about my dad with them.
It’s not surprising that Chris Candy didn’t mention his impressive family ties initially; I imagine he preferred his colleagues to get to know the man beneath the large burger hat before learning about his famous father. However, once it was revealed on set, it was heartwarming to see so many people eager to hear stories about the Spaceballs actor and express their affection for him. Such discussions must have been fascinating.
The Canadian-born actor has consistently paid tribute to his late father. On the 29th and 30th anniversaries of the death of the actor from “Uncle Buck”, he and his sister, Jennifer, made touching posts on Instagram in honor of him. Moreover, the Candy family is planning to uphold the legacy of the renowned comedian through a documentary produced by Ryan Reynolds. Thus, we can anticipate more stories being shared about the actor from “The Great Outdoors”.
As a cinema enthusiast, watching Chris Candy’s hysterical portrayal of a Burger Chain Gang member instantly reminded me of the hilarious antics of John Candy. In a blink of an eye, Candy delivered an extravagant comedic performance that I’m confident his father would have been thrilled to see. In fact, the creator and co-host of the “Too Much Movie” podcast shared with TMZ that they believe his dad would have appreciated it just as much.
Wow, I bet he’d be thrilled! Given his passion for football, this accomplishment must have him cheering with pride. And while I can’t help but imagine him saying something like, “I’m so proud of you,” it seems fair to say that his loyalty lay more with Tim Horton’s than Dunkin’ Donuts.
One great way to pay tribute to your football-loving father’s memory is by sharing the screen in a Super Bowl advertisement! Let’s hope Ben Affleck doesn’t notice the Tim Horton’s mention, given his well-known affection for Dunkin’ Donuts – he reportedly drinks their coffee daily. There’s nothing more suitable to honor your favorite donut chain than by producing top-notch commercials that keep viewers entertained!
Of course, the cast of DunKings 2 were eager to share John Candy anecdotes when they discovered that his son had worked alongside them. We’re looking forward to seeing Chris Candy build on his father’s legacy by taking on more comedic roles in the future.
