As a longtime Star Wars enthusiast who’s spent countless hours navigating the galaxy far, far away, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing that Ben Mendelsohn’s Orson Krennic and Denise Gough’s Dedra Meero will cross paths in Andor Season 2. The prospect of these two formidable characters clashing is not only intriguing, but it also promises to shed light on the complexities of Imperial dynamics during the construction of the Death Star.
In the same vein as the principal characters in “Rogue One”, which fits perfectly between “Solo” and “A New Hope” when watching the Star Wars series chronologically, Ben Mendelsohn’s Orson Krennic didn’t survive the end. Despite his character meeting his demise at the hands of the weapon he had devoted his Imperial career to, it doesn’t mean there aren’t additional tales to be spun around him. For instance, Mendelsoon will reprise his role as Krennic in “Andor” Season 2, which is set to premiere on the 2025 TV schedule next April. I can’t help but feel excited to learn from the actor what adversaries Krennic will be encountering at this stage of the Star Wars timeline.
It’s revealed that Grand Moff Tarkin wasn’t the only Imperial superior Officer who clashed with Orson Krennic. In an interview, Mendesohn mentioned that Krennic will face opposition from Denise Gough’s character Dedra Meero, a significant antagonist in the first season of Andor. Mendelsohn initially commented on this by stating:
If they disagreed, I find it endearing. In my opinion, the conflict between Dedra and Krennic seems somewhat unbalanced. After all, they are all subordinates to Krennic.
In Season 1 of the series “Andor”, which takes place five years prior to the events of “Rogue One”, we find ourselves observing Orson Krennic as he oversees the construction of the initial Death Star. The second season, recently finished filming in February, will delve into the subsequent four-year period. At this stage in the story, Krennic holds a significant position within the Imperial hierarchy. However, according to actor Ben Mendelsohn, Krennic and Dedra Meero may have conflicting views, despite their shared objective of furthering the Empire’s goals. Mendelsohn added that these disagreements are expected to unfold throughout the series.
1) They’re all moving in the same path, but within the Empire, opinions can vary. (Paraphrased using simpler language and a more conversational tone)
Ben Mendelsohn has declined to reveal whether Tarkin will appear in Andor Season 2. To be honest, I’m content not knowing for now. All I can say is that I’m eagerly anticipating the confrontation between Krennic and Dedra. It remains unclear if Dedra is an Imperial who advocates for redirecting resources from the Death Star to another project, similar to Grand Admiral Thrawn’s TIE Defender program in Star Wars Rebels. Alternatively, she might be pro-Death Star but disagrees with Krennic’s methods of managing the operation.
It seems that Dedra Meero is absent from “Rogue One,” suggesting she may have moved on or her fate in the remaining episodes of “Andor” could be uncertain. If she unfortunately meets her end in this series, it’s possible Orson Krennic might play a role in her death, either directly or indirectly. The future will reveal what happens to these characters when “Andor” Season 2 starts streaming on Disney+ from April 22, joining the lineup of upcoming “Star Wars” films and TV shows.
