As a long-time fan who has grown up with Ben Stiller’s comedic genius, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and nostalgia when I hear about his upcoming project, “The Dink.” With his knack for blending humor and heart, there’s no doubt in my mind that this pickleball comedy is going to be a hit.
Following their work together on “Nutcrackers”, Ben Stiller’s Red Hour Films and Rivulet Films are joining forces again to produce a pickleball comedy titled “The Dink“.
Jake Johnson takes on the main character in a story where he portrays an ex-tennis player who, to prevent a struggling tennis club from closing and earn his father’s admiration, agrees to compete in pickleball – something he had vowed never to do. The cast also features Mary Steenburgen and Ed Harris, while Ben Stiller and retired tennis legend Andy Roddick will play significant side roles.
Johnson is wrapping up his first directorial endeavor, a full-length film titled “Self Reliance,” which he penned and acted in. Josh Greenbaum will helm the upcoming movie “The Dink,” based on an original screenplay by Sean Clements. The production for this project is set to kick off in Los Angeles during November.
John Lesher and Stiller, along with Rob Paris and Mike Witherill from Rivulet, are jointly producing a project under their banner Red Hour Films. Additionally, Johnson will be involved in production as well. Notably, Stiller and Rivulet Films have previously collaborated on David Gordon Green’s “Nutcrackers,” which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and was acquired by Hulu.
In 2017, Ben Stiller took on his first leading role in a film since “Brad’s Status” directed by Mike White and “The Meyerowitz Stories” produced by Noah Baumbach for Netflix. Notably, Stiller has been more involved with directing and producing projects lately rather than acting.
Rivulet is financing The Dink, with Rick Steele, Clements and Greenbaum executive producing.
Johnson is represented by UTA, whereas Stiller is managed by WME. Steenburgen is represented by both UTA and Entertainment 360, and Harris is handled by CAA. Greenbaum is represented by both UTA and Entertainment 360 as well. Lastly, Clements is under the management of UTA.
