Benedict Cumberbatch, Olivia Colman’s ‘War of the Roses’ Remake Lands Late Summer Release

The remake of “The War of the Roses,” featuring Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman portraying a quarrelsome married pair, is set to hit cinemas across the country on August 29, as confirmed by Searchlight Pictures on Tuesday.

Jay Roach takes the helm for the film adaptation of “The Roses,” penned by Tony McNamara, a renowned screenwriter known for works like “Poor Things” and “The Favourite.” This movie is an adaption of the 1981 novel by Warren Adler, which was previously adapted into the 1989 dark comedy starring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner.

The film’s summary presents the seemingly perfect couple, Ivy (Olivia Colman) and Theo (Benedict Cumberbatch), as having successful careers, a strong bond, and wonderful children. However, beneath their idealized exterior, tension is building – Theo’s career slumps while Ivy’s career flourishes, leading to a volatile mix of professional rivalry and concealed bitterness.

I’m thrilled to be part of the stellar cast alongside Colman, Cumberbatch, Andy Samberg, Allison Janney, Ncuti Gatwa, Jamie Demetriou, Zoë Chao, Belinda Bromilow, and the incredible Kate McKinnon. What a dream team!

On August 29th, the movie “The Roses” is set to debut alongside horror-comedy “The Toxic Avenger” as well as Darren Aronofsky’s new film titled “Caught Stealing”, featuring actors Austin Butler and Regina King.
