Benny Blanco Says He Shazams His Own Songs Sometimes: “I Can’t Remember Anything”

Even if Benny Blanco made the song, it doesn’t mean he’s going to remember it forever.

The music producer and composer recently appeared on the Therapuss podcast hosted by Jake Shane, confessing that he occasionally needs to search for his own compositions.

Blanco recalled the first major project he was involved with was Britney Spears. Occasionally, when he’s dining out, he might think to himself, ‘Wow, this tune is fantastic.’ He then pulls out his phone and uses Shazam, an app that identifies songs quickly by analyzing a brief audio clip, only to discover it’s one of his own compositions.

He mentioned that sometimes he fails to recognize his own compositions, explaining, “With age comes forgetfulness, and I’ve produced countless tunes over the years. It’s been 16 years since I started creating music.

When Blanco noticed Shane’s puzzled expression, he inquired of the comedian, “Are you able to recall every single episode, every word you spoke? For instance, suppose you’re in your 16th season of your podcast and someone asks, ‘Did you interview Chelsea Handler?’ And you reply, ‘I believe I did.’

“Oh, I guess you’re right,” Shane responded.

The partner of Selena Gomez, known as Blanco, has teamed up with many musicians throughout his career, helping to produce some of the biggest chart-toppers such as Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself,” Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream,” Rihanna’s “Diamonds,” Maroon 5’s “Moves Like Jagger” and more. Prior to their relationship, Blanco contributed to Gomez’s 2015 track “Same Old Love.” Their latest collaboration can be found on the album, I Said I Love You First, which was released earlier this year.
