As a lifelong fan of comic book movies and a connoisseur of humor, I must say that the potential for a Deadpool team-up with Rocket and Groot is simply mind-blowing! If you’ve ever watched Guardians of the Galaxy and Deadpool back to back, you know that these characters are like the three musketeers of chaos – each one adding their own brand of madness to the mix.
For the first time, Deadpool graced the big screen in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. However, it’s no secret that Ryan Reynolds isn’t fond of how Deadpool was portrayed in that film, often joking about it in both Deadpool and Deadpool 2. This less-than-satisfactory portrayal by movie producers inspired Reynolds and others to leak glimpses of what a genuine Deadpool film could be like.
The remarkable performance of the initial two Deadpool films demonstrated that a superhero film rated R could achieve both critical acclaim and significant box office revenue. Now, given the recent success of Deadpool and Wolverine, we have learned not only that Deadpool is capable of being an R-rated blockbuster, but it can also coexist within the generally kid-friendly Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The growing excitement among fans now revolves around who Deadpool might join forces with next. Here are some possibilities.
10 Iron Man
In a hypothetical scenario, having Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) collaborate with Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) could pose challenges since Tony Stark was supposedly killed off in Avengers: Endgame. Nevertheless, given that Loki has been resurrected multiple times, the idea of reviving Iron Man once seems plausible. Such a union between a key Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) character and one of its most popular and marketable characters (Deadpool) would undeniably be a significant and exciting move from a production perspective. Interestingly, Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the MCU has been confirmed, as he’ll take on the role of notorious comic book villain Doctor Doom.
Picture Deadpool Flying in an Iron Man Suit
One lesson we took away from Infinity War, is that the hilarity of Robert Downey Jr.’s reactions to Star Lord (Chris Pratt), Drax (Dave Bautista), and Mantis (Pom Klementieff) antics was priceless. If we were to swap their humor with Deadpool’s adult-oriented jokes, we’d probably have a hilarious comedy. This movie would be brimming with physical comedy and sharp wit among characters. The idea of Deadpool pilfering one of Tony Stark’s suits is so amusing that Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige should seriously consider it.
9 Captain America
In a unique team-up, the Star-Spangled Man with his strategic mindset joins forces with Divinity’s Fool (an unconventional nickname). One might wonder what could possibly go awry when Captain America (Chris Evans) and Deadpool are together. Captain America stands for liberty and righteousness, sacrificing himself not just for his nation but the entire world. In stark contrast, Deadpool disrupts Celine Dion music videos and engages in underhanded activities with his unconventional choices. The chemistry between Evans (previously seen as the Human Torch) and Reynolds in Deadpool & Wolverine has already been proven, providing evidence of their comedic rapport.
Deadpool Posing with the Captain America Shield
The pairing of Evans and Reynolds was a delight to behold. Even though Captain America appears to have become more tolerant of swearing, fans familiar with How It Should Have Ended remember that Deadpool’s colorful vocabulary could potentially irritate the First Avenger. Moreover, it would be entertaining to imagine Deadpool concocting intricate strategies to pilfer Captain America’s shield.
8 Spider-Man
Deadpool has an enormous affection for Spider-Man, reminiscent of the friendship we witnessed between Deadpool and Wolverine. However, considering the unconventional nature of Deadpool (also known as the Merc with a Mouth), imagine his enthusiasm towards Peter Parker (Tom Holland)! But let’s be clear, such admiration would undoubtedly be expressed in an unorthodox manner.
Another MCU Bromance in the Making
As a diehard movie buff, I can’t help but feel a thrill at the prospect of a Spider-Man/Deadpool collaboration. The mind-boggling events of “Spider-Man: No Way Home” have opened up a whole new universe for our friendly neighborhood Spidey, and if rumors are to be believed, both Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield could potentially join the fray! If that’s true, it would send Deadpool into orbit with pure joy.
7 The Hulk
Collaborating between Deadpool and the Hulk (portrayed by Mark Ruffalo) could be an enjoyable spectacle, yet there’s a risk it might become monotonous swiftly. A significant joke would likely stem from Hulk destroying Deadpool whenever he oversteps boundaries. However, this movie needs more substance than just that one jest. Fortunately, we have the Intellectual Hulk at our disposal now.
Hulk Smash Deadpool… Over and Over
In the film “Avengers: Endgame,” scientist Bruce Banner found a way to merge intellect and physical strength, creating Smart Hulk for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Such complexity would be essential for a potential Hulk-Deadpool movie. Deadpool’s antics might provoke Bruce into an old-school Hulk rampage, possibly resulting in him unleashing a Juggernaut-like character from “Deadpool 2” and tearing Wade apart once more.
6 Dr. Strange
Fans are eager to see these two characters team up because their intellectual differences make for an intriguing dynamic. While Dr. Strange may not be the Sorcerer Supreme within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he’s still one of Earth’s sharpest minds and one of the most intelligent beings across the multiverse. Conversely, Deadpool is known for his street-smart intellect.
More Marvel Jesus Saving the Multiverse
In spite of their different levels of intelligence, Deadpool and Strange are both renowned for their quick wit and humor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Deadpool matches Strange joke for joke. If these two ever joined forces, audiences would be treated to rapid-fire exchanges of clever dialogue. It’s the kind of film you might need to watch several times to catch all the jokes. Additionally, both characters have encountered the multiverse, a realm where most other Avengers have not ventured.
5 Daredevil
Matt Murdock (played by Charlie Cox), blind since childhood, chose to master kung fu and leverage his enhanced senses to patrol Hell’s Kitchen and combat crime. Throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Daredevil has collaborated with various superheroes. Notably, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage formed a strong alliance with Daredevil in The Defenders. However, none of these heroes were as unpredictable as Deadpool.
Blind Leading the Crazy Mercenary
Clearly, Deadpool will undoubtedly pepper his dialogue with witty jabs, much like Dr. Strange and Iron Man. On the other hand, Matt Murdock, known for his sharp intellect and legal prowess, presents a contrast to Deadpool, an unconventional mercenary who thrives in the streets. So, we can expect a humorous collision between these two, one being book-smart and the other street-smart.
4 She-Hulk
Despite her show on Disney + getting a lot of backlash from some fans, She-Hulk is still a beloved superhero. In She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Tatiana Maslany brought Jennifer Walters to life and overall her performance was solid. She made the character fun and played off other MCU characters like Wong (BD Wong) and Matt Murdock well, which is why seeing her team up with Deadpool would not only be a lot of fun to watch, but it could help breathe new life into the She-Hulk franchise.
Two Fourth Wall Breakers Working Together
In a unique twist compared to other team-ups, She-Hulk stands out as the sole Marvel Cinematic Universe character able to acknowledge the audience (fourth wall breaking), promising amusing scenes filled with humor. Similar to her cousin Bruce Banner, Jennifer Walters is an educated lawyer, creating a dynamic where wit and intellect clash with street smarts. Additionally, the legal battles could offer hilarious moments as She-Hulk silences Deadpool by physically restraining him in court.
3 Ant-Man
Instead of having Deadpool associate with intellectuals and massive powerhouses, we’re moving towards a more lighthearted scenario where Deadpool teams up with an amusing cat burglar who has the ability to shrink to tiny sizes. A film featuring Ant-Man (played by Paul Rudd) and Deadpool would be ideal for a fun, casual viewing experience. The chemistry between Ryan Reynolds and Rudd could potentially create one of the most entertaining onscreen friendships if they were given the chance to star in this movie together.
Look, I’m Big Deadpool… Now I’m Tiny Deadpool
It’d be quite amusing to see Ant-Man struggling with Deadpool’s unruly behavior, given that Scott Lang is more childish than an adult man himself. There might be instances where Lang joins in on Deadpool’s antics, only to then attempt to regain control of the situation comically. But the concept itself – Deadpool having the Pym Particle at his disposal – promises a riotously funny movie experience.
2 The Punisher
One distinctive feature of the Punisher-Deadpool collaboration lies in the fact that Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) has no means to silence Deadpool, who won’t stop talking. Unlike being a colossal green rage creature, a super soldier, or donning an overpowered suit, Castle excels primarily with his weaponry skills. Thus, in terms of combat and weapon proficiency, they are comparably formidable.
These Two Will Make ‘The Boys’ Proud
In theory, these two characters have a similar approach when dealing with their adversaries – they track them down and eliminate them. Seeing Deadpool collaborate with someone who shares his zeal for bloodshed and turmoil would be both amusing and incredibly violent. It’s likely that there would be far more violence, gore, and explicit language than in the entire collection of “The Boys” series.
1 Rocket & Groot
The dynamic duo of Rocket (Bradley Cooper) and Groot (Vin Diesel) could easily carry a standalone movie. In fact, a simple, everyday storyline featuring their antics would make for a hilarious comedy. Add Deadpool to the mix, and we’re looking at a potential contender for the funniest Marvel Cinematic Universe film ever created.
I am Groot… I am Deadpool…
In this collaboration, Ryan Reynolds’ knack for improvisation is perfectly utilized: Given that Groot mostly says “I am Groot,” it leaves ample room for Reynolds to steer the dialogue as he pleases. Moreover, the antics between Groot, Deadpool, and Rocket are sure to be a riot, although poor Rocket might require some Tylenol to recover!
