As a huge fan of Patrick Fabian’s acting prowess, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to speak with him about his latest role in “The Way We Speak.” His portrayal of Howard Hamlin in “Better Call Saul” left a lasting impression on me, and it was fascinating to hear his take on the character.
I had the opportunity to chat with experienced TV actor Patrick Fabian before the premiere of “The Way We Speak,” set to hit the screens this week. In this new project, Fabian brings to life Simon, an articulate and charismatic character that could evoke memories of his stellar performance as Howard Hamlin from “Better Call Saul.” With the much-anticipated finale of “Better Call Saul” now behind us, fans have been engrossed in discussions about whether Howard truly was a good person deep down.
In six seasons of the show, Howard stands out as the most consistent character with a steady goal – running a law firm. The unpredictable behavior of the McGill brothers and other characters often disrupts this, creating unwanted chaos for Howard.
Fabian goes on, making a comparison between himself and the bold and resourceful character Simon in the gritty movie “The Way We Speak”: [Or alternatively, Fabian continues by pointing out the similarities between his own tenacious personality and that of the character Simon in the provocative film “The Way We Speak.”]
“Howard and Simon have many similarities, but from an external perspective, one might assume that Simon is a certain way. however, I didn’t personally view him that way. In my opinion, Simon is simply trying to attain what he desires, but unfortunately, he lacks effective methods to accomplish it.”
‘Starstruck’ by Patrick Fabian
As a big fan of “Better Call Saul,” I was thrilled when its writer-director, Ian Ebright, sat down with me for an interview. I still remember the shocking moment in Season 6 that had me jumping off my couch in surprise. Fast forward six months later, and I found myself working alongside Ian on my first project as a writer-director. Having the opportunity to have him present in the room, sharing his iconic voice from the show, was an incredible experience for me. It wasn’t starstruckness per se, but there was definitely a little extra excitement knowing how talented he is.
In Ebright’s latest production, the narrative revolves around intense discussions between Simon from Fabian’s team and Sarah, a faith-driven writer (portrayed by Kailey Rhodes). They passionately clash on a renowned platform over God’s relevance in today’s world. According to Ebright, “I believed that religion is much like politics – people are strongly attached to their political beliefs, and the same applies to their religious or non-religious convictions. This setup seemed intriguing and engaging for our storyline.”
In her thought-provoking book, “The Way We Speak,” Ebright brings up several sensitive topics. Additionally, he hints at how his upcoming film might function as a warning based on these issues.
In simpler terms, the speaker is implying that people can be deeply convinced by their beliefs, be they political or religious. This conviction can lead us to do extreme actions, a theme explored in the film. The question for Simon and Sarah then becomes whether these beliefs are worth the potential consequences.
