Beverly Hills, 90210 Star Jennie Garth Regrets Joining The CW's Reboot

As a seasoned movie reviewer who has witnessed the rise and fall of many beloved franchises, I must say that my feelings towards the reboot of Beverly Hills, 90210 are akin to a rollercoaster ride – exhilarating at first, but leaving me with a lingering sense of disappointment by the end.

Following a run of ten initial seasons, “Beverly Hills, 90210” was revived on The CW as the television series “90210” reboot. Many members of the original cast decided not to participate in the new version, but several key players returned to their original roles. In the first season of the reboot, Shannen Doherty, Tori Spelling, and others agreed to join the cast, however, over the course of the first two seasons, their characters gradually vanished from the screen as the series took a new direction. Sadly, Garth seems to have mixed feelings about her involvement in “90210” now.

Recently, Garth attended 90s Con in Daytona where she met up with some of her old co-stars from the 90210 sequel series. As reported by People, Brian Austin Green has shown appreciation for the concept of the series, but Garth expressed a wish to go back in time and reject the chance to revive Kelly Taylor on the show. In her own words:

I regret making that decision, but let me clarify, there’s nothing against them personally. The producer was acquainted with someone else, and he seemed genuine when he presented it as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity in my living room. He asked me to participate, and at the time, I didn’t know how to refuse. The people were kind, and I wish them all the best.

Garth Returned To The Franchise One More Time

Despite initially disliking the CW series and leaving 90210 after just two seasons, Garth revisited the concept in 2019. The Beverly Hills 90210 universe was reimagined as a self-aware version, running for one season. In BH90210, the original cast reunited, but instead of portraying their fictional characters, the series focused on exaggerated or amplified versions of themselves. This provided Shannen Doherty with an opportunity to rejoin the franchise in a fresh role, dispelling her previous reputation as difficult to work with. Tragically, this was the last time Shannen appeared alongside the original cast before passing away at 53 years old earlier this year.

Any doubt that Garth deeply regretted her tenure on 90210 was squashed when she cemented her feelings in one swift statement. While attempting to remain respectful of her beliefs, Garth ensured that fans at 90s Con understood her position about crazy Kelly Taylor’s90210 fever dream return.

“I wish I hadn’t done it. No offense to them.”

You can stream “Beverly Hills, 90210” on Paramount+, while the reboot titled “90210” can be found on the CW app.
