Bhediya director Amar Kaushik addresses difference between Varun Dhawan starrer’s box office and OTT performance: ‘Uss samay Drishyam 2…’

2022’s movie Bhediya, headlined by Varun Dhawan, didn’t do as well at the cinema but has gained significant popularity on streaming platforms over time. Lately, director Amar Kaushik discussed this contrast and offered explanations for it. He reminisced about the enthusiasm surrounding Ajay Devgn’s film Drishyam 2 during that period.

During an interview with Komal Nahta for Game Changers, Amar Kaushik discussed the varying performance of Bhediya in cinemas and on streaming platforms. He highlighted two factors that contributed to this discrepancy. Firstly, he pointed out that the release timing of Stree 2 had been alongside other films, similarly, Drishyam 2 was released concurrently with Bhediya.

Last week, I found myself immersed in the gripping tale of Drishyam 2 alongside Bhediya’s release. The hype surrounding both movies was undeniable, and it seemed as though the cinematic magic that unfolded with Stree in its second week was replicating itself for Drishyam. I must say, the Ajay Devgn-starrer drew massive crowds to the theaters.

The director disclosed that his intention was to appeal to young audiences with the movie “Bhediya,” however, it premiered during the examination period. He mentioned that a significant number of students were unaware of the film’s release and only learned about it afterwards.

Next, Amar Kaushik revealed that in his film, he likely created a climax focused on a specific area where the characters were portrayed as animals. He explained that although he could have had Varun Dhawan fight as a human, it would have given away the fact that he was a shapeshifter. “Now I wonder what I’ll do in the sequel.
