In an exclusive chat with TopMob, director Anees Bazmee dished out the backstage tales of recruiting Vidya for the movie and shared her response when she first read the script.
In an interview with TopMob, Anees Bazmee, director of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, explained why he chose Vidya Balan to play Manjulika. He felt she was the ideal choice for the role because she had shown so much love and talent in the original film, and their friendship is also quite strong.

Anees went on to say, “We shared the script with Vidya ji, and fortunately, she took a liking to it. She expressed that among all the stories she’s heard, there was one in particular that she found appealing. As I began narrating, I gave her a 10-minute summary to gauge her reaction. Upon finishing, she showed great enthusiasm and said, ‘This is going to be really enjoyable!’
10-15 minutes later, they shared another meeting and the entire storyline with me, but it felt to me like they had carefully crafted their vision and touched my heart, making it clear that this film was meant to be. I had already sensed that this film would come into being. Afterward, we provided a full narrative, and she agreed to join the project.
Approximately 10 to 15 days after our initial meeting, we reconvened and presented a comprehensive account. However, within the first ten minutes, I sensed that she had already formed an opinion in favor of this film and was eager to participate. It became clear to me that she would indeed join us for the project. Following this, we finalized our discussion, and she officially joined the team.
Anees ended by expressing, “It’s wonderful that she returned to Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 after 17 years. She truly excelled in her role within the movie.
