As a huge fan of “The Big Bang Theory,” I wholeheartedly agree with Simon Helberg’s sentiment that Howard Wolowitz’s character missed out on some major development in terms of exploring his family background, particularly his father’s absence. The show left us wanting to know more about this mysterious figure and why he abandoned Howard when he was just an eleven-year-old boy.
“The final episode of ‘The Big Bang Theory’ was broadcasted in 2019, but one of the show’s prominent actors, Simon Helberg, thinks his character, Howard Wolowitz, had more room for development. In an interview with The Press Association and reported by The Inquisitr, Helberg expressed his belief that Howard’s family background and storyline could have been delved into deeper.”
“I’d enjoy the possibility of meeting his father, according to Helberg. However, I don’t control the show’s content, I just receive the script and discover that his dad abandoned him. It adds intrigue, I’m excited to see how it will unfold.”
In simpler terms, Howard’s parents, particularly his mother, were seldom seen or known to fans on “The Big Bang Theory.” Mrs. Wolowitz was only heard screaming at her son from different rooms in the house until her passing in Season 8. Contrastingly, Howard’s father was nowhere to be found throughout the series, although there were hints about his absence.
What happened to Howard’s father on The Big Bang Theory?
Simon Helberg feels that the show missed a valuable opportunity by not introducing Howard Wolowitz’s father, Sam, who seemed to be a recurring thought for the creators. Though we learn his name and that he abandoned the family when Howard was young, the series denied viewers the chance to understand the reasons behind this departure. Despite hinting at it throughout the show, we were left without satisfying resolution.
In Season 6 episode “The Closet Reconfiguration,” Howard stumbles upon a letter his father wrote for his 18th birthday. Instead of opening it, he discards it, which later haunts him with regret. The friends each share their versions of the letter’s content. Amy Farrah Fowler tells Howard that his father attended his high school graduation, adding warmth to the tale. Contrarily, Sheldon claims the letter contained a map leading to buried treasure, reminiscent of “The Goonies.”
To put it simply, Howard’s father’s fate on “The Big Bang Theory” remains a mystery that will be remembered, but generating our own explanations adds to the enjoyment, doesn’t it?
