Although I strongly support Jim Carrey’s version of “How The Grinch Stole Christmas” from 2000, I feel a bit apprehensive about revisiting its spiritual sequel – Mike Myers’ “The Cat in the Hat.” Even though we’re discussing upcoming films for 2025, hearing that another attempt is being made on Dr. Seuss’ classic book stirs up some concerns in me.
Until today, that was when I hadn’t seen the trailer for the new movie starring Bill Hader, which premiered just now. After giving it a watch, initially driven by mere curiosity, I find myself remarkably optimistic about its potential future. What makes it even better is my belief that even those who are hard to impress will get a good laugh from this.

The New Cat In The Hat Is Visually Stunning
In a vibrant, whimsical style reminiscent of Dr. Seuss’s masterpieces, the 2026 version of The Cat in the Hat exudes an unadulterated purity of spirit. This was certainly lacking in the 2003 live-action adaptation, despite some scenes that remain among my favorites. However, it wasn’t the Cat from my childhood memories.
Directors/co-writers Alessandro Carloni and Erica Rivinoja seem to have put together a picture that’s filled with brightness and purity. They are both experienced animators, with Alessandro having worked on series like How to Train Your Dragon 2 and Kung Fu Panda 3, and Erica contributing to projects such as South Park and Trolls.
In terms of appearance, the melting pot is quite intriguing; when it comes to comedy, it’s another topic with immense potential for exploration.

I’m Sensing A Strong Looney Tunes Influence In The Cat In The Hat’s Humor
The scene that most convinced me to support The Cat in the Hat was when he demonstrated his knack for disregarding rules. Drawing from the unbridled madness of classic Looney Tunes, this brief yet impactful moment perfectly blended innocence with pure chaos.
Faced with a caution from a colleague mimicked by Saturday Night Live’s Bowen Yang, this playful cat-like character is advised not to uncover a box clearly labeled “Do Not Open.” A brief joke follows as various other warnings are disregarded, leaving us excitedly anticipating the surprise. Though I can’t speculate on the contents, I’ll let former Bill Hader predict for me!
On February 27th, 2026, the beloved character The Cat in the Hat will make a return to our screens, jumping out of our imaginations onto the big screen again.
