Although details about the project were shared several years ago, updates have been scarce. However, recent news indicates that filming for “Lord of War 2” may start this year, with actor Tom Hardy – who will portray the son of Cage’s character, Yuri Orlov, an international arms trafficker – taking on the lead role.

In his latest interview on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Alexander Skarsgård lavished praise on Nicolas Cage, referring to him as a “legend.” He also hinted at the excellence of the script and shared excitement for what fans can anticipate from this much-awaited sequel.

Nicolas Cage is truly iconic, and it seems we’ll see him again in the following year (2025). The script is excellent, and I believe it will make for an entertaining watch. 20 years ago, in 2005, the movie “Lord of War” was unveiled, written and directed by Andrew Niccol. It chronicles the 20-year arms-dealing journey of Yuri Orlov, a New York outcast, as he capitalizes on escalating global tensions following the Cold War’s end and the rise of global terrorism. The film features Jared Leto, Bridget Moynahan, Ethan Hawke, Eamonn Walker, and Nicolas Cage. Initially receiving somewhat divided reviews upon release, “Lord of War” has since gained more recognition and is now regarded as one of the actor’s finest works.

The ratings on Rotten Tomatoes demonstrate this well, as Lord of War received a moderate 62% approval from critics but an outstanding 85% from viewers according to Popcornmeter. In essence, although Lord of War offers insightful commentary on the arms trade, its storyline is too disjointed for critics to fully appreciate it.
