As a long-time gamer and music enthusiast who has grown up with Billie Eilish‘s meteoric rise to fame, I must say this recent turn of events has left me both intrigued and saddened. The news about Wasserman’s alleged misconduct is truly disheartening, especially considering the positive impact some of their clients, like Maggie Baird and her sustainability non-profit, have had on our community.
Billie Eilish, a hugely impactful musician who’s regularly dominated the Billboard charts and garnered multiple Grammy and Oscar awards, has decided to part ways with Wasserman Music. She, along with her brother and collaborator Finneas O’Connell, have now signed with WME for their music, film, and television representation. According to a representative from Eilish, this change was made because they wanted all aspects of their career (music, film, and TV) handled by the same agency, which is currently WME. They had been associated with WME for film and TV since January 2023. (This information was shared with The Hollywood Reporter.)
Neither WME nor Wasserman responded to requests for comment.
The initial report of this action emerged from Billboard, following the publication of a detailed August 1 article by the Daily Mail concerning accusations of sexual misconduct against Casey Wasserman, owner of Wasserman, over several years. This alleged misconduct involved multiple women, including subordinates at his firm and others who worked under him, all while he was still married. Although Wasserman has been a prominent figure in the entertainment and sports management industry for some time, his influence has recently grown significantly as the powerful chair of the organizing committee for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
Variety reported that Eilish’s team was taken aback and displeased when they found out they were mentioned in the story. Meanwhile, a source close to her camp shared with The Hollywood Reporter that Maggie Baird, Eilizh’s mother and actress, was appalled by the disclosures and aimed to separate the celebrities from the situation as quickly as possible. It was in 2023 when Wasserman had been supporting Baird through his family foundation, offering financial aid to her non-profit organization focused on sustainability, Support+Feed.
I, as a fervent admirer, find myself in a position where I’m compelled to bring attention to an ongoing situation. Despite allegations of misconduct, Wasserman has yet to respond publicly. Remarkably, they continue to manage high-profile entertainment icons such as Kendrick Lamar, Blackpink, and Kacey Musgraves. Furthermore, their roster extends to notable sports figures like Megan Rapinoe, Alex Morgan, and Klay Thompson.
As a die-hard fan, I’m reflecting on Eilish’s recent absence from the spotlight, which follows her significant role in the L.A. handover of the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics. There, she was chosen as the performer for the closing ceremony, a moment that left an indelible mark.
