Billie Lourd Reveals Exciting Secrets About Working with Matt Bomer in ‘Mid-Century Modern’!

Working with the team behind Hulu’s “Mid-Century Modern” feels more like joining an extended family than just a group of colleagues. For me, Billie Lourd, it couldn’t be truer.

This comedy brings together the established star with her co-stars from Scream Queens, American Horror Story, and American Horror Stories, all under the supervision of Ryan Murphy, who serves as an executive producer on this series created by Max Mutchnick and David Kohan. Notably, these two TV giants have also established a strong bond with Lourd, having given her a significant role in their Will & Grace reboot, where she portrayed Fiona, the granddaughter of a character previously played by Lourd’s late grandmother, Debbie Reynolds. Reynolds was a recurring figure on the NBC sitcom, playing the mother of Debra Messing’s character, Grace Adler.

However, in one of the most heartwarming familial bonds, Lourd is the goddaughter to renowned publicist Simon Halls, who is married to popular actor Matt Bomer, known for his work in Mid-Century Modern productions. Interestingly, it was Bomer who initially contacted her to persuade her to join a cast featuring Nathan Lane, Nathan Lee Graham, and the late Linda Lavin. The role she accepted was another family connection, portraying the long-lost daughter of Bomer’s character Jerry, a gay flight attendant.

Lourd shared with The Hollywood Reporter that while he was in Chicago for a movie, this man, who was standing near him in a stylish suit, contacted him. In fact, the man had initially texted and then called to propose his idea. However, Lourd didn’t need convincing, as he quickly responded, “I’m already there, and I’m getting on a plane right away!” This was said next to Bomer, who was dressed by Caruso.

Growing up with my godfather connected me to Matt Bomer since I was ten. The opportunity to collaborate with him was nothing short of extraordinary! I’ve always admired his acting skills and found him incredibly gifted and attractive. To top it off, he’s an artist in every sense of the word.

Lourd expressed her excitement for TV viewers to witness how hilarious Bomer is on the show “Mid-Century Modern.” She added that she hasn’t seen him be funny on television before, but he’s always cracking jokes in real life. She found it enjoyable to watch him deliver those jokes during filming because he’s so talented and committed to his craft. He even took her under his wing and made the environment comfortable for her, considering it can be quite intense with a live audience present. Although she has experience with this from “Will & Grace,” it can still be intimidating.

Regardless of any challenges it presented, the opportunity provided Lourd with a chance to re-enter the TV world following her streak of independent films. After starring opposite Pamela Anderson in Gia Coppola’s “The Last Showgirl”, she filmed three indies successively. “I’m on my indie spree at the moment, and I’ve been enjoying every bit of it,” Lourd commented happily. “I did two delightful rom-coms: one in Palm Springs [for ‘That Friend’] and one in Chicago [for ‘Love Language’], and then I filmed a fascinating horror movie [called ‘Adulthood’] in Ottawa, Canada.

As a dedicated gamer immersed in the world of virtual production, I can’t help but feel a strong connection to real-life Los Angeles. Just like my favorite games need regular updates and expansions, our city needs more local productions. I’m all for the “Stay in L.A.” campaign; it’s heartbreaking to see the decline of Hollywood’s golden age. We need better tax incentives to keep the magic alive here. After all, this is the gaming console of filmmaking, and we should be pushing its boundaries, not limiting its potential.

Next up, Lourd will voice a character in the upcoming animated Smurfs film, and she’s eagerly anticipating spending time with her co-star, Rihanna. “I’m really looking forward to it, and wherever Rihanna is, I want to be too. If I could simply share a moment beside her, that would be wonderful.

She’s open about working on a clandestine endeavor with Murphy, which she’s yet to discuss. However, what she will disclose is her anticipation that any upcoming opportunity may center around music. “What I truly aspire to do is sing. Spread the word.” And so it has been said.
