In simpler terms, Howard Stern shared an exclusive chat with Billy Joel, during which they talked about Joel’s latest health issue – a diagnosed brain condition.
76-year-old “Piano Man” singer Billy Joel announced that he’s been diagnosed with Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH), a condition involving an abnormal buildup of fluid in the brain’s ventricles. As a result, he’s postponing his upcoming concerts for four months or more, leaving fans concerned about his well-being.
Last Tuesday, during an episode of ‘The Howard Stern Show’, Howard Stern mentioned that he had dined with Joel a few weeks back, to celebrate Joel’s birthday.
In a nutshell, Stern shared that they enjoyed dinner together and it went smoothly. However, he acknowledged that there are challenges this person faces. Yet, during their conversation, the individual expressed a desire to make it clear that they’re not at death’s door. They have some health concerns to manage, but overall, they were pleasant, and the time spent with their spouses was enjoyable. Billy seems to be holding up just fine.
Two weeks ago, Joel’s team shared a statement on his official social media platforms regarding his diagnosis. The announcement detailed that a worsening of his condition was due to recent concert performances, causing issues with hearing, vision, and balance. As directed by his doctor, Joel is undergoing specialized physical therapy and has been asked to avoid performing during this healing phase. Joel expresses gratitude for the exceptional care he is receiving and is fully dedicated to putting his health first. He appreciates the support from fans during this period and eagerly looks forward to the moment when he can perform again.
Joel expressed his heartfelt apologies for any inconvenience caused and expressed gratitude for the audience’s understanding.
Alexis Roderick Joel, the singer’s wife, likewise expressed her sentiments: “We appreciate the overwhelming affection and encouragement you’ve shown us. The excellent care and quick diagnosis we received have been truly remarkable. To us, Bill isn’t just a popular figure, but a cherished father and spouse who holds our universe together. We are optimistic about his recovery. We eagerly anticipate reuniting with all of you in the future.
A year ago, Joel achieved his 100th performance during a ten-year stint at Madison Square Garden. Additionally, he graced the Grammy stage for the first time in more than two decades.
His forthcoming tour encompasses a total of 17 performances slated for sports arenas scattered throughout North America and the UK. Due to cancellations, ticket holders have been granted an automatic refund.
