Björk To Release Photo Book Chronicling Her ‘Cornucopia Tour’

As a long-time admirer of Björk and her innovative approach to music and art, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming release of “Cornucopia: The Book”. This photo book promises to be a visual feast, showcasing hundreds of stunning images from her groundbreaking tour that spanned over five years.

In the upcoming month, Björk is set to publish a photo book celebrating her Cornucopia Tour. This tour, which spanned from 2018 to 2023, started with a residency at The Shed in Manhattan.

After making her choice, she decided to embark on a world tour, with Iceland’s Hamrahlid Choir as her companions. Björk herself referred to “Cornucopia” as a “sci-fi pop concert.” The upcoming book, titled “Cornucopia: The Book,” will gather over 400 visuals and photos taken during the performances by Santiago Felipe across 480 color pages.

The softcover book features a flap cover and glossy pages and is packaged with a 16-page booklet.

Björk elaborated on the tour and the forthcoming book in a statement:

I’m thrilled to share some exciting news: “Cornucopia: The Book” is now available! This publication offers a comprehensive account of my five-year tour, “Cornucopia,” meticulously designed by M/M Paris and beautifully captured by photographer Santiago Felipe through his lens.

Prior to embarking on this tour, I’ve spent a solid decade crafting sound and visual software for virtual reality and animation, including the pioneering app album “Biophilia” and later transforming “Vulnicura” into a VR experience. My passion stems from the concept of an all-encompassing immersion, where I spent a spring in an Icelandic lighthouse, enveloping ‘Utopia’ in surround sound speakers. The goal was to transfer our 21st-century VR creations into a 19th-century theatre, moving them from the headset to the stage.

In this realization, 27 moving screens served as canvases for digital animations, accompanied by projections onto various textures and LED displays, forming a dynamic “lanterna magica” synchronized with live music. Additionally, I aimed to incorporate custom-made musical instruments such as a magnetic harp, an aluphone, a circular flute, and a reverb chamber, meticulously designed in collaboration with an audio architect to elevate the most subtle nuances of each performance within an intimate personal chapel setting.

Throughout this tale, there is a subplot woven in: a second story of an avatar – a modern marionette who alchemically mutates, from puppet to puppet, from the injury of a heart wound to a fully healed state. I hope you enjoy it.”

Björk’s Cornucopia: The Book will be released on November 15.
