As a hardcore gamer who’s been through the zombie apocalypse more times than I care to remember, I can’t help but get excited about the prospect of Black Ops 6 Zombies incorporating a beloved Resident Evil feature – the infamous, gruesome death animations.
It’s challenging to recall periods when zombies weren’t a significant aspect in video games, as they have become quite prominent over time. Although Zombie Zombie for the ZX Spectrum in 1984 is recognized as the first zombie game, it was Resident Evil that truly ignited and popularized the genre within the gaming world.
Currently, you can find zombies in a variety of games such as The Last of Us, Left 4 Dead, Dying Light, and Telltale’s The Walking Dead. Moreover, they have appeared in other formats too, like Treyarch’s Call of Duty series, which is now famous for its popular Zombies game mode.
Black Ops 6 Zombies could be nabbing a beloved Resident Evil feature
Initially introduced in 2008’s World at War by Treyarch, the Zombies mode has become a signature element in their Black Ops series. With Black Ops 6 set to return in 2024, the Zombies mode is anticipated to be a major attraction for the game, given that it wasn’t included in Modern Warfare 3.
From what we’ve heard about Black Ops 6’s Zombies mode, it offers much more than just the traditional round-based gameplay. As shown in the initial glimpse of the Terminus map, there seems to be an array of exciting elements to discover. In addition to this, a new feature reported by YouTuber MrDalekJD is that Zombies will have a unique ‘game over’ animation sequence at the end.
Just like Chris Valentine and Jill Redfield experienced grisly deaths in the 1996 version of Resident Evil, MrDalekJD predicts that similar death animations will occur when characters are killed in Black Ops 6 Zombies. Moreover, we’re informed that Treyarch has included “outro scenes” for the main Easter egg, and they have also added “game over outros.”
In this game, when your character completely perishes, there’s a brief in-game sequence that plays. This short scene depicts a zombie ripping into your character’s body, which is quite amusing. Given Call of Duty has never been suitable for children, the increased gore in Black Ops 6 Zombies could be justifying its rating.
In a lively manner, the Resident Evil series is known for its creative depictions of death, as demonstrated in the 2023 remake of RE4. MrDalekJD’s video provides an in-depth look at returning elements such as GobbleGums, weapon customization, and modes tailored to different gameplay experiences. Additionally, it highlights the introduction of the Augment upgrade system and new adversaries like Vermin and Parasites.
It appears that Treyarch has understood that some players primarily enjoy Call of Duty for its Zombies mode, and Black Ops 6 seems like it was designed with this fanbase in mind, given the countless hours we’ve spent battling the undead since World at War. However, we’ll make an effort to avoid those Resident Evil-style endings.
