As a seasoned gamer who’s been through countless lives and virtual stages, I can confidently say that Lisa’s VMA performance was nothing short of a level-up moment. Her energy, charisma, and raw talent were on full display, making her solo debut at the VMAs an unforgettable spectacle.
This year, Lisa from Blackpink could add a vibrant VMAs performance to the expanding catalog of achievements she has earned so far.
At the MTV’s Video Music Awards, the 27-year-old Thai pop star and rapper known as Lalisa Manobal was the first to perform solo. Dressed in a full red ensemble, she started off her set with a two-song medley that included her latest hit “New Woman.

In the brief rendition of “New Woman,” typically performed by Spanish artist Rosalía, Lisa took center stage to display both her vocal prowess and dancing skills. She danced through a segment of the tune while moving around coordinated red chairs.
In a flash, Lisa moved seamlessly into her popular summer anthem “Rockstar.” Her lively act ignited the stage, with pyrotechnics adding to the spectacle behind her. This internationally renowned pop sensation, recognized for her exceptional dancing skills in K-Pop, incorporated a dance segment featuring numerous backup dancers.

2024 could mark the debut of solo artist Lisa at the VMAs, but it’s important to note that Lisa, as a member of Blackpink, has previously graced the VMA stage. Last year, in 2022, Lisa, along with her bandmates Jennie, Jisoo, and Rosé, showcased their hit song “Pink Venom” on the same stage.
Last month, Lisa unveiled “New Woman,” and her first single with RCA Records, titled “Rockstar,” was dropped in June. Notably, “Rockstar” marked the beginning of Lisa’s solo venture with this record company. In December 2023, it emerged that Blackpink had extended their exclusive agreements with YG Entertainment for group projects; however, it subsequently became known that all band members chose to depart from the label in pursuit of individual careers.
In February, Lisa unveiled her fresh venture named LLOUD, stating in an Instagram post that it serves as a platform for expressing her ideas in both music and entertainment industries. Come April, news broke about a partnership between Lisa and RCA Records, with the former’s LLOUD. The agreement, according to the label’s announcement, empowers Lisa to publish new singles under RCA while retaining complete ownership of all her recordings.
Lisa, newly appointed as a global ambassador for Louis Vuitton, is slated to share the spotlight at the upcoming 2024 Global Citizen Festival. This New York concert marks her first solo festival performance; prior to this, she had shared the headlining role and performed at Coachella alongside Blackpink.
