Amidst the ongoing public debate about “It Ends With Us”, another movie starring Blake Lively is garnering attention on streaming platforms. Released on Netflix on New Year’s Day, “The Age of Adaline” has climbed its way onto the streamer’s most-watched list. Lively stars in this fantasy romantic comedy alongside Harrison Ford, Michael Huisman, and Ellen Burstyn. Directed by Lee Toland Krieger, the film follows Adaline Bowman, a woman who miraculously stops aging after a near-death experience, as she works to conceal her secret.
As a movie enthusiast, I must admit that “The Age of Adaline” didn’t quite win over the critics (many found its narrative to be rather puzzling). However, this film certainly doesn’t disappoint when it comes to stellar performances from its star-studded cast. It’s a delightful watch, if you ask me. Initially, it didn’t set the world on fire upon its release, but it managed to garner moderate success at the box office, earning $65.7 million globally on a budget of just $25 million.
It’s plausible that the growing popularity of the movie “The Age of Adaline” on the streaming platform is partly due to Blake Lively’s recent rise in public profile. Currently, she and her “It Ends With Us” director and co-star, Justin Baldoni, are involved in a heated legal dispute that has attracted widespread media coverage. In December, Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni, accusing him of sexual harassment and launching a smear campaign against her. The New York Times published an exposé detailing the allegations. On December 31, Baldoni retaliated by suing the publication for $250 million in damages, claiming libel, false light invasion of privacy, promissory fraud, and breach of implied-in-fact contract.
‘It Ends With Us’ Scrutiny Leads to Worries About ‘A Simple Favor 2’
During promotional activities for the 2024 film “It Ends With Us”, which delves into the effects of domestic violence within relationships, Lively encountered criticism during her interviews. Some viewers perceived Lively as trivial and believed she didn’t adequately discuss the movie’s heavy themes. In her defense, Lively stated that she and the cast were instructed on how to promote “It Ends With Us” according to a Marketing Plan. The controversy surrounding these interviews led certain social media users to dig up and disseminate previous interviews and footage, which they felt portrayed Lively in an unfavorable light.
In the mix was video of her and Anna Kendrick, her co-star from A Simple Favor, which some perceived as a sign of tension between the two actresses. However, with A Simple Favor 2 now in post-production and both actresses set to appear in the sequel, director Paul Feig has used social media to address speculation that a dispute between Lively and Kendrick had caused the film’s premiere to be called off.
On X, Feig shared:
I’m sorry for any confusion, but I must clarify that the information circulating on social media about the movie may not be accurate. Rest assured, the film is indeed complete and will be released soon.
In a separate post, Feig added:
This movie is fantastic! Both Blake and Anna deliver outstanding performances. I’m really looking forward to everyone getting a chance to watch it. Keep an eye out for further updates. Simple Favor 2 is on its way soon!
Currently, there’s no news about the release date for “A Simple Favor 2”. In the meantime, why not check out movies like “The Age of Adaline”, “It Ends With Us” and, of course, “A Simple Favor” on Netflix?
