As a long-time DC fan, I find myself intrigued by the prospect of Brandon Sklenar playing Batman in the upcoming DC Universe film “The Brave and the Bold.” While I initially thought this idea was as far-fetched as Batman fighting Superman (a joke for those who remember the disastrous 2016 movie), Blake Lively‘s endorsement has piqued my interest.
Over the last few years, several different actors have portrayed Batman in live-action films. Most recently, Robert Pattinson played Bruce Wayne in “The Batman,” and he’s scheduled to reprise the character for “The Batman: Part II” in 2026. In a future film called “The Flash,” both Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton made appearances as Batman, which might be their last time playing the Caped Crusader. As a new chapter of the DC Universe begins, another Batman is needed for this continuous storyline. Fans are suggesting Brandon Sklenar, who acted alongside Blake Lively in “It Ends with Us,” for the role, and I wouldn’t mind seeing him step into the cowl either.
This all started when Sklenar shared screenshots from a Deadline article revealing he’s going to star in The Olympian, where he’ll play real-life, gold medal-winning athlete Brad Alan Lewis, who competed in rowing at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. In addition to congratulatory comments, the actor’s Instagram post was bombarded with supporters who think he should play Batman, and Lively is officially part of that camp. She wrote in the comments section:
I’m thrilled for you, my friend! You’re truly a gem and they’re fortunate to have you. By the way, I see all these discussions about Batman. I’d gladly take up the role if needed! After all, James Gunn knows what the audience wants, and this is exactly it. 🦇 ❤️
Three months have passed since the film adaptation of “It Ends with Us” was scheduled for 2024 release, featuring Blake Lively as Lily Bloom and Brandon Sklenar as Atlas Corrigan in the lead roles. It’s worth mentioning that Sklenar is also recognized for his role as Spencer Dutton in the prequel spinoff of “Yellowstone,” titled “1923,” which can be streamed with a Paramount+ subscription. This performance has indeed boosted speculations about him potentially playing Batman, considering his muscular build and action background. Take a look for yourself:
Since the announcement of the DC Universe in early 2023, many actors have been proposed for the role of Bruce Wayne, particularly in the upcoming Batman film “The Brave and the Bold.” Although Blake Lively doesn’t currently have any direct ties to DC, having played Carol Ferris opposite her husband Ryan Reynolds in “Green Lantern” over a decade ago, she might still catch the eye of DC Studios co-head James Gunn. With this in mind, he might at least contemplate Sklenar for the part.
I’m intrigued by the possibility of Brandon Skelnar as Batman in the DCU, but there’s one snag: The upcoming series, The Brave and the Bold, features Bruce Wayne teaming up with his son Damian, who becomes Robin. Since Skelnar is only 34 years old, he’d be quite young to play a Batman with a teenage son. However, the release date for The Brave and the Bold isn’t confirmed yet, so if enough time passes, Sklenar might grow into the right age to portray Bat-Dad.
If it happens at some point in the future, we’ll make sure to keep you updated. In the meantime, the series “1923” has been renewed for a second and concluding season, and the DC Universe will start again next month with the premiere of Creature Commandos for Max subscribers. This will be followed by the release of “Superman” on July 11, 2025.
