Blake Lively Talks It Ends With Us And Gives The Best Advice To Young Actors [EXCLUSIVE]

Blake Lively Talks It Ends With Us And Gives The Best Advice To Young Actors [EXCLUSIVE]

As a seasoned gamer who’s spent countless hours immersing myself in virtual worlds, I can confidently say that Blake Lively’s latest role in “It Ends With Us” is a game-changer! This powerhouse actress has always been impressive, but her portrayal of Lily Bloom is undeniably her finest performance yet.

Blake Lively has significantly evolved from her roles in teen series such as “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” films and “Gossip Girl.” In her latest movie “It Ends With Us,” she delves into a fresh endeavor with one of her most intense projects yet. This film, adapted from Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel, sees Lively portray Lily Bloom, a woman burdened by a complex family background who relocates to Boston and encounters Ryle Kincaid, played by Justin Baldoni from “Jane the Virgin” (who also directed the movie). Ryle and Lily develop a relationship, but soon, a hidden aspect of Ryle is revealed, leaving Lily taken aback and disheartened.

Looper got the chance to speak to Lively during a press roundtable about her work on the film — and beyond her other effusive praise for everyone else involved with the project, Lively marveled at the actors who portray young Lily and her teenage paramour Atlas Corrigan, played respectively by Isabela Ferrer and Alex Neustaedter. (As an adult, Atlas is played by “1923” star Brandon Sklenar, who was also present for the interview.) Lively admitted that she didn’t have a whole lot of contact with Ferrer and Neustaedter, but that she did get starstruck around them when they visited her house. “She’s just so great in this movie,” Lively said of Ferrer. “And Alex is so beautiful. I was so starstruck because I’d spent so much time watching him for all this entire post-production process, every single day, every hour of the day, watching him […] And then he walked into my living room.”

Even Blake Lively thinks that the resemblance between her and Isabella Ferrer is uncanny

“During the creation of our marketing material, I found myself truly starstruck. As Blake Lively narrated, it happened when Isabela Ferrer and Alex Neustaedter dropped by her home. ‘I recognized his voice first,’ she said, ‘It’s young Atlas!’ When we met in person, it was my very first encounter with him outside of the screen. It was quite a surreal experience! Isabela, who is a real person named Lily in reality, was standing there as well, chatting with each other. I couldn’t help but feel incredibly excited to have them both in my living room.”

During an interview, Lively mentioned that her interactions with Ferrer on set were minimal, but she and Brandon Sklenar did discuss their observations of the resemblance between the younger actress and the seasoned performer. Lively humorously pointed out that they both share a mole and are quite talkative with their hands. On the other hand, Sklenar felt that the two shared more similarities than Lively was willing to acknowledge. When asked if he thought they were alike in terms of mannerisms and appearance, Sklenar replied, “Yes, now that I know you, a bit,” finding it strange that they bear such a striking resemblance.

Blake Lively has some incredible advice for young actors

I asked Blake Lively what advice she would give to young actors like Isabela Ferrer — who makes her feature film debut in “It Ends With Us” — the actress had a perfect answer: watch as many movies as you can. “Watch movies like it’s your job,” Lively said, before revealing that she actually received this advice from someone in her own life. “Someone said that to me once. They were asking me about a movie, and I was like, ‘I don’t know, I’ve never seen that movie.’ They were like, ‘It’s your job though.’ And I was like, ‘No, I’m an actor.’ And they’re like, ‘It is your job to watch movies.'”

As a cinephile with years of movie-watching under my belt, I never fully appreciated the educational value of cinema until recently. Like Emily Lively, I used to view movies solely as a source of joy and entertainment, but now I understand that watching films is an essential part of my job as an actor.

“It Ends With Us” releases in theaters on Friday, August 9.
