As a passionate film enthusiast, I can’t help but express my excitement about Adam Levine returning to the coaches seat on The Voice this season. However, the absence of original coach Blake Shelton has left many fans, including myself, yearning for the iconic banter between them. Though it seems that the cowboy may have turned his chair for the last time, I can’t help but feel that his days of mentoring are far from over.
Season 9 contestant Emily Ann Roberts recently shared insights into the profound impact Blake has had (and continues to have) on her career, and I am genuinely astounded by it all.
Blake Shelton, well-known for his ongoing support towards contestants from “The Voice,” as highlighted by Kelly Clarkson during his last season, is a fact that Emily Ann Roberts can vouch for. The country artist was merely 16 when she placed second to Jordan Smith in 2015, and she shared with US Weekly that Shelton was actively helping her right after the finale concluded.
From the start, Blake has been exceptionally helpful. When I left The Voice, he was the one reaching out, telling me about people who wanted to meet me and another individual eager to collaborate with me. He would contact me unexpectedly, make connections for me, and follow up on my progress. Simply put, he’s been an outstanding mentor throughout this journey.
It’s impressive to note how much dedication Blake Shelton shows towards artists he believes in, and this isn’t limited to just one individual. Many alumni from Team Blake have shared that they maintain a connection with the singer of “God’s Country” and have even performed at his bar Ole Red. For instance, Lana Scott from Season 21 had a delightful encounter with Shelton.
10 years after meeting her country superstar coach, Emily Ann Roberts continues to be very close to him. In fact, he asked her to open for him last year and she performed on his Friends and Heroes Tour this past season as well. One of the most significant things she’s picked up from him is observing how he connects with the audience, making everyone feel like they’re part of the performance. According to Emily Ann, this is an invaluable lesson she has learned from him.
This experience presents me with an incredible chance to join him on tour, showcasing my music to his devoted followers. Such an opportunity, priceless as it is, allows me to perform in front of such a massive audience and share my music with them – an experience that’s truly irreplaceable. Moreover, being able to observe him perform night after night backstage offers me an education beyond any classroom or formal training. I’m essentially learning from a seasoned professional who has been in the business for longer than I’ve been alive, and has mastered his craft so skillfully.
It’s clear that Emily Ann Roberts found the experience given by Blake Shelton to be extraordinary, and her expression suggests she appreciates it deeply.

Naturally, it’s not feasible for the previous Voice coach to travel with every contestant he’s ever trained – though perhaps that idea sparked his and Taylor Sheridan’s new singing competition – but it seems he continues to back many of them. Regardless of the time he invests, I find it admirable because there’s no obligation for him to maintain contact with any show singers.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but miss Blake Shelton and his former colleagues, but fear not! “The Voice” is still going strong on NBC, welcoming new talents every Monday at 8 p.m. ET. Don’t forget to catch it live or catch up the next day with a Peacock subscription.
