As a long-time fan of Blake Shelton and The Voice, I must admit that his departure from the show left a void in my Monday nights. However, with the announcement of THE ROAD, a new singing competition series set to debut on CBS in 2025, I can’t help but feel a glimmer of hope. Having Blake Shelton as part of the team, alongside Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan, is nothing short of a dream come true for country music enthusiasts like myself.
Over the course of his 23 seasons on The Voice, Blake Shelton became deeply cherished by viewers as one of the coaches. This affectionate attachment was one of the primary reasons for the widespread sadness that ensued when he decided to leave the show. At present, it appears unlikely that he will rejoin NBC’s long-standing fixture. However, supporters of the seasoned musician now have a tantalizing prospect to anticipate in the 2025 television schedule: Shelton is set to join a brand new singing competition, with a prominent TV producer also involved.
2025, here I am, excitedly sharing the news that CBS has given the go-ahead for THE ROAD, a fresh singing competition series! This fall, I’ll be hitting the road with Blake Shelton, who’s also producing this show, and lucky contestants will have the chance to open for him during the tour. The challenge? Winning over the local fanbases to keep their spot on this epic journey. And to top it all off, the mastermind behind Yellowstone, Taylor Sheridan, will be joining Blake as a producer for this amazing adventure! Can’t wait!
This kind of project signifies a notable change for Taylor Sheridan, who is primarily recognized for creating scripted dramas such as the previously mentioned western series, Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, and Lioness. However, according to comments made by Sheridan upon the unveiling of THE ROAD, he appears eager to explore this new realm of television production. In his own words about his latest venture:
A significant shift is happening within the realm of country music. Collaborating with Blake on a platform for the upcoming pioneers of this movement is a genuinely thrilling project. Gone are the days of polished floors and studio audiences. Instead, it’s about getting down to business – literally. Hop in the van, head to the next town, and captivate the crowd. Repeat that process enough times, and you could very well become one of these new leaders. It’s as straightforward as that.
Similarly, Blake Shelton expresses enthusiasm about his partnership with Bass Reeves as an executive producer. The singer of “God’s Country” also voiced his own positive sentiments following the news.
I’m thoroughly impressed by Taylor’s remarkable work, and I’m thrilled to be working alongside him and my long-standing partner, Lee, on our project called “The Road.” With some experience in singing contests and chasing a musical dream while touring, I can’t wait to unearth fresh talent and provide them with an opportunity to shine.
As you’re keeping tabs on THE ROAD, don’t forget to catch The Voice airing on NBC this evening, November 11th, starting at 8 p.m. Eastern Time. If you miss it live, you can always stream it the following day with a Peacock subscription. Enjoy the Season 26 Knockouts!
