As a seasoned gamer and music enthusiast with a knack for predicting the next big thing in entertainment, I must say, the collaboration between Blake Shelton and Taylor Sheridan on CBS’ “The Road” has my full attention! With Shelton’s extensive experience on NBC’s “The Voice” and his knack for discovering new talent, coupled with Sheridan’s innovative approach to storytelling and the success of Yellowstone, this singing competition is shaping up to be a game-changer.
CBS will embark on a journey titled “The Road” alongside country music sensation Blake Shelton and the creative mind behind “Yellowstone“, Taylor Sheridan.
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that come fall 2025, I’ll be able to witness the premiere of “The Road,” a singing competition I’ll be executive producing alongside Shelton and Sheridan, right here on our beloved network. This will mark a significant milestone for us, as it’s been quite some time since we last ventured into the realm of talent competitions, with the brief stint of “Come Dance With Me” in 2022 being our most recent venture. In fact, this series will be our first music-based competition since the iconic “Rock Star” from the mid-2000s. I can hardly wait to embark on this musical journey with all of you!
CBS’ announcement follows the resumption of Yellowstone on its sister network, Paramount Network, after a much-anticipated hiatus, marking the start of its fifth season’s latter part.
The upcoming tour titled “The Road” will have various singers performing alongside an as-yet-unnamed music sensation, acting as the headliner’s opening act. Each performer will strive to captivate local audiences and secure their place in the next city on the tour.
101 Studios, in partnership with MTV Entertainment Studios and Lucky Horseshoe Productions (led by producers Blake Shelton and Lee Metzger), will take on the production of the series. Kevin Sheridan, along with David Glasser from 101 Studios, and Shelton and Metzger will serve as executive producers for the project.
Shelton expressed his enthusiasm by stating that he’s a great admirer of Taylor’s remarkable work. He’s thrilled about collaborating with both Taylor and his long-standing partner, Lee, on ‘The Road.’ Having some insight into singing contests and chasing a musical dream while touring life, Shelton can’t wait to unearth new talent and offer them this platform.
Sheridan remarked, “A transformation is happening in country music. Joining forces with Blake for the pioneers of this change offers a tremendously thrilling opportunity. Forget polished floors and studio audiences; this is about real-life experiences – literally jumping into a van, heading to the next town, and captivating the crowd. Repeat that, and you’ll be one of the leaders. It’s as straightforward as that.
For 23 consecutive seasons, Shelton was a regular on NBC’s singing competition show, “The Voice.” He left the program after its spring 2023 edition. Alongside Metzger, he also served as executive producers for USA Network’s unscripted series, “Barmageddon.
Besides overseeing the popular Yellowstone series and shows like Tulsa King, Mayor of Kingstown, Lioness, and Landman on Paramount+, Sheridan additionally manages CMT’s competition show The Last Cowboy and served as an executive producer for the Paramount+ documentary series Willie Nelson & Family.
