Blue Bloods Star Tom Selleck Is Frustrated Show Will End in 2024

Blue Bloods Star Tom Selleck Is Frustrated Show Will End in 2024

As a long-time devotee of the silver screen, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing some truly remarkable performances that have left lasting impressions. Among these, Tom Selleck’s portrayal of Frank Reagan in Blue Bloods stands out as one of the most captivating and enduring. The series, which has been a staple in my weekly viewing schedule for over a decade, is about to bid farewell after an impressive 14-season run.

Even though every great thing eventually finishes, Tom Selleck isn’t fading quietly as Dylan Thomas wrote about in his poem. Instead, he confesses feeling somewhat aggravated about the conclusion of the highly cherished Blue Bloods television series, which will air its final eight episodes this coming October. The fourteenth season, where CBS broadcasted the first half of the show’s episodes earlier this year, symbolizes the last act for the gripping police procedural. And it seems Selleck is finding it particularly challenging to bid farewell. As reported by TV Insider, the actor stated:

Over the past eight episodes, I’ve found myself more eager to discuss Blue Bloods’ continued success rather than its potential ending. In the 2023-2024 Top 100 Shows rankings (based on total viewers), if you exclude the three football shows, we’re at number 6! I have no intention of becoming a grumpy old man exclaiming, “Stay off my turf!” Instead, I’m excited about what’s next for Blue Bloods.

I’m not one to harbor resentment, but if someone were to propose a television show that could dominate Friday nights for the next 15 years, even in the worst time slot possible, it would be extremely hard to accept such an offer as believable.

Since the series premiered in 2010, Selleck, portraying the Reagan family’s patriarch, went on to express (as follows):

The series seemed to be overlooked since it excelled right from the start, and now, untangling all this feels like a lengthy process. After the weekend of our final episode shoot, I expressed I needed an early night for my lines on Monday. However, there was no Monday; things will take time.

Tom Selleck, affectionately looks back on the intense police drama Blue Bloods, as it approaches its surprising end after an impressive 14-season stint on television. Remarkably, the script of fate arranged Frank Reagan’s customary chair at the dinner table for one last time during Selleck’s last day of filming the CBS series. According to a piece published by TV Insider (below), Selleck stated:

In a surprising turn of events, my final scene on the show was a heartwarming family dinner – ironically, this was the same scene I filmed 15 years ago when we first started! I won’t spill all the beans about the last episode, but let me tell you, the family dinner serves as a reunion for the Reagan clan. Erin’s daughter Nicky (played by Sami Gayle) and Jack (Tony Terraciano), Danny’s older son, were both present. We decided as a group that it was best to wrap up filming for the family dinner scene without over-exploiting the moment. The rest of the cast had four more days left to shoot, but I wasn’t so fortunate.

It might surprise you that Selleck hasn’t received an Emmy nomination for his role as Frank Reagan in ‘Blue Bloods’. Yet, there’s no denying the significant impact his performances have had on the series. When the show concluded, it was a mix of joy and sadness at most. During a recent interview, Selleck shared insights into his final day on the ‘Blue Bloods’ set.

“We were shooting for hours and all of a sudden, they said ‘Well, that was the last shot.’ I always wanted to say this poem, ‘Love Is Not All’ by Edna St. Vincent Millay. There was crying and there was an enormous amount of hugs. Donnie [Wahlberg] was really broken up; he didn’t say much. Bridget [Moynahan] spoke. Just about everybody said something.”

Donnie Wahlberg, like several other cast members, has said goodbye to the well-loved drama series before its disputed termination. The last eight episodes of Blue Bloods Season 14 will be released this coming Friday, October 18th, at 10 p.m. EDT on CBS, and the following day on Paramount+.
