Like any horror movie villain, you can’t keep a dead deal dead.
Discussions regarding Blumhouse potentially purchasing a portion of the enduring horror series, “Saw,” have resumed and appear to be more solid this time around, possibly reaching a conclusion.
Blumhouse Productions is currently negotiating to acquire the ownership share of the Saw franchise from Twisted Pictures, a production company run by Oren Koules and Mark Burg. Twisted Pictures shares the rights with Lionsgate, who has been distributing the movies since they released the first film in 2004.
If the deal is finalized, it will return a portion of the franchise to James Wan, the director who made that movie and co-created the series with Leigh Whannell. In early January 2024, Blumhouse Productions, led by Jason Blum, combined with Wan’s production company, Atomic Monster.
The negotiations between Blumhouse and Twisted started about a year ago, but they recently hit an impasse earlier this year. One of the major issues that caused the breakdown was agreeing on a sales price.
More to come.
